Agriculture is a major industry in the USA and the country is a net exporter of food. Although agricultural activities occurs in most states, it is mostly concentrated in the vast expanse of flat, arable land known as the Great Plains ( from Texas to Montana), which encompasses the cent-ral region of the country. Almost 21 mln. people or about 17% of all population works in the ag-riculture of the USA. Nearly 3 million independent farms deliver feed products to the American consumers. The area of an average farm in the USA makes about 416 acres (1.69 km2). There are more than 2.2 million farms in the country, covering an area of 922 million acres (3,730, 000 km2). The very large farms – those with 1000 acres and more account for more than 40% of farm acreage. The largest manufacturers of grains making up 2,3% of total of farms, produce about 50% of wheat in the country. Similarly, the largest 2% of the manufacturers of chickens- broilers own 70% of market sales.

The US farmers produce about $ 143 billion worth of crops and about $ 153 billion worth of livestock each year. The major agricultural crops are: corn (grain), soybeans, hay, wheat, cotton, sorghum (grain), and rice. The country is, by far, the largest producer of corn in the world, pro-ducing 32% of the world’s corn crop in the early 2010s. Corn is grown on over 400,000 U.S. farms. The U.S. exports about 20% of corn production. Soybeans are also important. Approximately 3.06 billion bushels of soybeans were harvested from 73.6 million acres of crop-land in the U.S. soybeans rank second, after corn, among the most – planted field crops in the USA. Soybeans are used to create a variety of products, the most basic of which are soybeans oil, meal and hulls. Currently, soybeans oil represents approximately 65% of all edible oil con-sumed in the USA. It is also used in Soy Diesel fuel. Hulls are used as components of cattle feed rations.

Hay production in the USA exceeds 119 million tons per year. Alfalfa is the primary hay crop grown in the country. U.S hay is produced for domestic consumption and for export market. Ov-er 160,810 farms produce wheat and wheat production exceeds 2.27 billion bushels a year. The U.S. produces about 10% of the world’s wheat and sup-plies about 25% of the world’s wheat ex-port market.

The USA produces cotton. Cotton is grown from coast to coast, but in only 17 southern states, concentrated in California,Texas and the Southeast. The country produces over 30% of the world’s cotton with annual exports of more than $7 billion. In the USA 26,242 farms grow grain sorghum which is used as animal feed and as packing material and as a biological fuel.

State tax regulation plays important role in encouraging of farm development in the USA. Sin-ce1990 the size of the tax – free profit has increased up to 5000 dollars. Calculation of surtax in the USA agro industrial complex has a number of peculiarities, each of which can represent a tax privilege. The USA tax law gives the farmers the right to subtract the cost – connected with so-me work in agriculture and cattle breeding from the tax paid. Work on soil preservation, water resources protection, soil preparation for farming are of this kind. The tax discounts works for the incomes and losses suffered by the farmers in connection with the sa-le of cattle or forages.

The special tax privileges are given to farmer cooperative societies. Thus, fruit growing coope-ratives societies, marketing, and also those purchasing farm machines – are released from surtax payment. One of the major functions of tax privileges in agriculture is to stimulate scientific and technical development; accelerate realization of technical novelties, which require large addition- nal capital investments.
