Sensation
Sensation is what we sense and feel during our life time. Sensation has 5 major branches which are: sight, sound, taste, smell and touch. It can also be said that sensation occurs when we respond to stimulus. Stimulus is a source of energy that promotes a reaction in a sense organ. All 5 major branches of sensation are extremely important. Imagine a child who celebrates his birthday in a loud company of relatives and friends, sees the birthday cake, hears laughter of his folks all over the room, eats a nicely baked chicken, smells the fresh oranges and hugs everyone in the room who came to congratulate her. In case, at least one sense will not work the whole picture would be changed. The colours of the celebration would be less bright and clear and the mood itself would completely become changed. Sensation keeps on developing until a child becomes an adult. Children- because of having less experience may not sense everything perfectly and when they listen to loud music they guess that there is nothing that can be louder than this while adults’ senses are crafted well so they can differ whether the taste of desert is too sweet or mild- sweet. Therefore, sensation is a very hard and interesting part of psychology which is being experienced by people every single day.
Sensation is actively used in information processing model because humans would not be able to receive and store information without our senses. There is no way in which an individual can get information without seeing or listening something. For example if a boy was told to describe a computer game by playing it blindfolded, he would not even barely manage to do so, because he is not able to see what he is playing. As it was mentioned above the information processing model consists of six parts. All of those parts depend on how well the information was absorbed. Suppose in short term a man did not hear what he has been told to do due to some factors like noise and misunderstanding. In this case, the whole picture will get changed because the information was heard in a wrong way. Therefore, sensation matters a lot when it comes to information processing model which requires senses to see and store information.
Perception
Perception is people’s experience which was gained through their senses. The perception of most of the people is identical. When ‘’BASKETBALL’’ is being said, a picture of sportsmen who try to score to basket comes to mind to some people. Others may just imagine a ball flying to basket. However, the general idea is the same. It is well known that snow is cold and people are aware of that because they touched it and kept in memory. Thus, perception cannot be made without sensation.
Perception is actively used in information processing. The fact that perception gives a picture of something is doubtless. For example if a teacher says to students that next lecture will be about self-motivation, a clear picture of somebody who tries to improve his skills in something will come to mind, some people will remember Michael Jordan’s motivational speeches. There is a term called assumption which is relevant to perception. Assumption is coming to a conclusion about something based on knowledge and experience. However assumptions can be wrong, for example some people directly associate a Muslim with a terrorist but know nothing about religion called Islam. It is so because of news and media who always bind terroristic acts directly to Muslims. However, right perception is based only on the individual’s knowledge and it is still yet pretty general and close almost to all people.
