a a fracture that is parallel to the bone’s long axis

2 Open (compound)

b a fracture in which the bone fragments are still partially joined. In such cases, there is a crack in the osseous tissue that does not completely traverse the width of the bone. Usually occurs in children

3 Compression

c a fracture that is diagonal to a bone’s long axis

4 Complete

d a fracture where at least one part of the bone has been twisted

5 Incomplete (“greenstick”)

e a broken bone does not break through the skin and is not visible on the surface

6 Linear

f a fracture usually occurs in the vertebrae, for example when the front portion of a vertebra in the spine collapses

7 Transverse

g a fracture caused when bone fragments are driven into each other

8 Oblique

h a fracture in which bone fragments separate completely

9 Spiral

i a broken bone breaks through the skin and is visible on the surface

10 Comminuted

j a fracture that is at a right angle to the bone’s long axis

Skull Fracture

Skull fracture is a break in/on one or more from/of the bones in/on the skull usually occurring as a result of/from blunt force trauma. If the force of/to the impact is excessive, the bone may fracture at/in or near the site of/with the impact. The force in/of direct impact may cause damage to/for the underlying physical structures contained within/over the skull such as the membranes, blood vessels, and brain, even in/on the absence for/of a fracture. While an uncomplicated skull fracture can occur without/for associated physical or neurological damage and is in/on itself usually not clinically significant, a fracture in/on

healthy bone indicates that a substantial amount off/of force has been applied and increases the possibility towards/of associated injury. Any significant blow inside/to the head results in/from a concussion, with/ under or without/above loss in/of consciousness.

A fracture which occurs in/at conjunction with/without an overlying laceration which tears the meninges, is termed a compound fracture.

The presence by/of a concussion or skull fracture at/in trauma patients without/behind intracranial haemorrhage or focal neurologic deficits was indicted in/for long-term cognitive impairments and emotional lability at/through nearly double the rate as those patients without/by either complication.

There are four major types in/of skull fractures: linear fractures which are the most common and usually require no intervention for/ from the fracture itself; depressed fractures which are usually comminuted with/along broken portions against/of bone displaced inward/ against may require surgical intervention if there is underlying tissue damage; diastatic fractures in/from which the sutures off/of the skull widen usually affects children beyond/under three, and basilar fractures which occur around/in the bone on/at the base of/from the skull.
