Lack of Hospitality.
A man knocks at the door of his neighbor's where he is a frequent but not welcome visitor. A servant girl opens the door and says that her Master has gone out. The man says that it doesn't matter because he can speak to her Mistress. But she has gone out too. The visitor thinks a bit and he wants to sit by the fire for a while. But the servant-girl answers that it is out of the question because the fire has gone out too.
Melted Away.
A boy asks his mother to give him one more lump of sugar. But the mother refuses, saying that she given him five already. To that the boy answers that it doesn’t count because the lumps have already melted away.
Charity Begins at Home.
Mr. Brown and Mr. Smith are neighbours. They meet one Sunday evening and one of them asks the other what he has done during the day. Mr. Brown says that he done a piece of charity work. Mr. Smith exclaims that he has always thought Mr. Brown to be a good neighbour. She also wants to know what kind of work it is. Mr. Brown tells him that he has bought a sack of flour for a woman who is sick with the flu. Mr. Smith enquires which of their neighbours he made happy by this gift, and Mr. Brown answers that it is his own wife.
A Sure Sign.
John and Billy meet not far from John’s house. Billy is hurrying to John’s sister and asks his friend if she is expecting him. John says that she is, and when Billy asks him how he can be so sure he replies that she has just gone out in a hurry and he knows that it is a sure sign.
