  1. Living organisms have different limbs to move in their environments:

Organism

Adaptation of their limbs

Reason

  1. Whales & dolphins

P addles (also called fins)

T o swim in aquatic environments.

  1. Bats

W ings

F or flying

  1. Horses

Strong legs

For running

  1. Monkeys & gorillas

T heir arms & fingers are long & strong

T o climb trees

& catch food.

  1. Birds have different beak shapes & legs according to the food they eat & the environment they live in:

Organism

Adaptation of the mouth

Reason

  1. P redatory birds such as hawks & vultures

-Sharp & crooked (curved) beaks.

-Their fingers end with sharp claws.

To tear the prey.

To catch the prey.

  1. H eron

-Long thin beaks

-Long thin legs & fingers.

To pick worms from shallow water

To walk in shallow water ponds (their environment).

  1. W ater birds such as ducks & geese

-Wide indented beaks .

-Webbed feet (called palm)

To filter mosses from water.

For swimming

3. Adaptation of insectivorous plants.(insects eating plants).

Drosera , dieonea & halphila are predating plants.

They perform photosynthesis & make carbohydrates (their food) like all green plants.

They also catch insects & digest them. the digested insects are the source of nitrogenous material (made from nitrogen). The insectivorous plants use nitrogenous material to build their bodies.

  1. Give an example (the name of an organism) to explain:

  1. How an animal adapts to live in the desert.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

  1. Structural adaptation to living in aquatic environment.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

  1. A functional adaptation to high temperature.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

  1. Fill in the blanks:

  1. The fingers of hawks end with sharp……………………………

  2. Vulture is an example of ……………………………birds while …………………………… is an example of insectivorous plant.

  1. Choose the correct answer:

  1. The function of poisonous secretion of snakes is ……………………….

(catch prey– adapt with high temperature – adapt with daylight )

  1. The limbs of bats are………………

(paddles – claws – wings )

  1. The duck’s ……………………..filters mosses from water.

(legs – beak – webbed feet )

  1. Insectivorous plants get nitrogenous material from………………………..

(captured insects – photosynthesis – soil )
