My Future Profession.
My name is… I’m a second – year student of the KSTU. I study at the machine – building faculty. My speciality is “Quality Management”.
The course for engineers lasts 5 years. At the 5th course the graduates are to submit a graduation paper.
Students of this speciality get a profound theoretical and practical knowledge in different fields of technology. We must have good knowledge of mathematics, theoretical mechanics, technology of metals, technology of machine – building, management, etc. Students take part in the research work. Students have practice at the local factories (enterprises).
When I become an engineer I shall control quality at different organizations: hotel, banks, firms.
And it is the engineer of quality control who will solve many technical problems. We will control quality of equipment.
What speciality did you choose?
How many years does the course for engineers last?
What kind of subjects do students study?
When will students of this speciality work after finishing the KSTU?
Why did you choose speciality “Quality Management”?
Self-control.
Criterion (criteria) – критерий, критерия

Self-control
Ideally, responsibility for control should be assigned to individuals. Such assignment is inherently clear. It also confers status – a form of ”ownership” that responds to some basic human instincts.
Ideally, responsibility should also be coextensive with authority. Applied to quality control this requires meeting the criteria for self-control – that is, providing the operating forces with the following:
A means of knowing what the goals are. This criterion is met by publishing the goals and standards.
A means of knowing what the actual performance is. This criterion is met by establishing the system of measurement, the frequency of measurement, and the means for interpreting the measurements.
A means for changing the performance in the event that performance does not conform to goals standards. To meet this criterion requires an operating process that is inherently capable of meeting the goals and is provided with features that enable the operating forces to change the performance as needed to bring it into conformance with the goals.
The concept of self-control is also universal. It applies to everyone in the company, from the CEO to the worker level, inclusive.
The importance of the self-control concept goes beyond its value in establishing clear responsibility and ownership: self-control is a necessary prerequisite to motivation.
To hold someone “responsible” in the absence of controllability (see the following section) creates the risk of unwarranted blame and of divisiveness. In this way one of the tests of completeness of planning for control is whether the criteria for self-control have been met.
Questions:
Who should responsibility for control be assigned to?
What should responsibility be coextensive with?
What are the criteria for self-control?
Why is the concept of self-control universal?
Speak about self-control.
