Water Tourism
Warm-up Activities.
1. Think of as many words as possible related to the theme “water tourism”.
2. Enumerate water tours which are popular in Krasnoyask krai.
Text 1. a) Read the information. Translate the text into Russian.
Water tourism is almost a "way of life" for a large number of people. Water, sunshine, fresh air, harmonious physical movement, camping, the magic of campfires are all part and parcel of this kind of tourism. Water tourists are invariably attracted by the landscape, colours and sounds. Tourists can enjoy sunrise and sunset which paint incredible scenes with the scudding clouds.
People invented various kinds of rest and sports connected with water: swimming, rafting, boating, motoboating, kayaking, canoeing, yachting, diving, fishing and so on.
b) Express your attitude towards the watery journeys. Do you share the author’s position?
Read the text and answer the comprehension questions:
Why water tourism is considered a "way of life" for a large number of people?
What attracts tourists in watery journeys?
What kinds of rest and sports connected with water did people invent?
Text 2. Read three blocks advertisements. Which of them do you find the most appropriate for promoting: a) a tourist company; b) a particular water itinerary; c) positioning the territory as a water tourist attractive region?
1) Hungary is a country for lovers of rivers and lakes. A glance at the map will show that we are surrounded by the Carpathian Range and that many rivers come in from the higher ground of the neighboring countries. Only the smaller streams have their sources in Hungary. The two largest rivers - the Danube and the Tisza - flow right across the country. Hungary has a quite extensive water system. The land is covered by a network of major and minor rivers, like the veins in the human body. There are many types of watery landscape to attract the water lover, including gentle streams, medium and large rivers, moors and marshes. The travelers will easily find many lakes as well as major and minor rivers, all in charming environments with excellent opportunities for water sports. Dear Friend, Dear Boat Captain, grasp the oars, board your motorboat, untie the ropes of your yacht and set off on one of waterways!
2) Primorskii Krai has an irreversible appeal to water tourists as it comprises tourism in action with a challenge (rafting, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, etc), active rest (swimming, sunbathing, fishing) and viewing beauties of valley landscapes.
Most rivers, which flow from the Sikhote-Alin mountains eastwards, are pretty short, but they are quick with abundance of rifts. Sometimes one can enjoy the terrific view of waterfalls. On the contrary, the rivers of the western slopes, with the exception of the upstreams, are still and very long. Many of them are suitable for rafting even for beginners.
Located on the eastern slope of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains, the Tigrovaya River is eminently suitable for rafting in the southern part of Primorye. It is the most popular among tourists. Rafting is possible only when the river floods during snow melting period (May-June) and after heavy rains and summer typhoons (in August). This river is good for water trips like «Day-off hiking». This tour is convenient because it is not difficult to get from Vladivostok to the starting point of rafting (by a local shuttle up to Tigrovaya station or «Crossing 94km»). After reaching the final destination point it is easy to get to the nearest settlement (for example, Khmelnitskoye Village, the highway «New Moscow - Kazanka»). Therefore those who love rafting ecotourism can choose a trip, which meets all their requirements.
3) Whitewater Tours California rafting trip combines all the elements of a memorable river rafting adventure — beautiful scenery, thrilling rapids, sun, solitude and relaxation. Each California white water rafting trip is carefully geared to meet your level of experience and sense of adventure, whether it is a express half-day California river rafting run or a multi-day California whitewater rafting vacation. We pride ourselves on the excellence of our well-qualified and personable California river rafting employees and the fact that we have been offering safe California whitewater rafting trips for more than 25 years.
