My Keep Fit Programme.
Some people live long and enjoy their lives. Others suffer from all illnesses imaginable. What helps a person to keep fit? I would like to tell you how to be healthy and about my keep fit programme. To be healthy you must follow some simple rules.
First of all, you should eat the right food: dairy products, boiled meat and fish, fruit and vegetables and avoid eating harmful things, such as fried, sweet, smoked and especially fast food.
Secondly, if you want to have a strong immune system, you must take vitamins regularly.
Thirdly, you should avoid bad habits because if you smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs, you suffer from many serious illnesses. Don't forget to take a shower twice a day, wash hands properly and follow the proverb " Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Besides that, you should go in for sports or play different sports games, jog, swim, ride a bike, skate, ski, do morning exercises.
Moreover, remember the saying "A merry heart is a good medicine". You should take everything with a sense of humour, then you won't be nervous or irritable.
Don't forget to visit your doctor regularly. A good rest is very important, too.
You should try to spend much time in the fresh air. Of course, going to the seaside is
a good way to improve your health, but spending time in your summer garden is also
worth doing.
As for me, I try to follow these clever rules, but my school keeps me busy. That's why I
don't have much spare time to exercise. Of course, I wash hands before meals,
clean my teeth and take a shower regularly. I try not to be glued to the TV set or to the computer because it ruins my eyes. I eat healthy food but I am not a "great eater", it helps
me to control my weight without keeping to a diet. I am sure that music reflects our mood
and emotions. When I am in low spirits, I listen to my favourite music and feel much
better. When I have spare time, I go to the swimming pool. In summer I enjoy roller
skating, riding a bike, hiking with my friends. In winter we are fond of
skiing and skating. In my view, sport not only helps us to become stronger, develops us
physically, but it makes us more organized and better disciplined in our daily activities.
To sum up, I want to say that health is above wealth, you can't be good at school if you don't take care of your health. That's why it is very important to me to keep fit, to be healthy
The Protection of the Environment.
The scientific and technological progress of the 20th century resulted in widespread
mechanization, automated lines, computerized management, space ships, atomic power stations, pipelines, new roads and high ways and other favours.
But it cannot be denied that the price for rapid industrial development is very high. Natural resources are exhausted. The ecological balance of the planet is destroyed: some species of flora and fauna are disappearing, city and industry waters and fertilizers from the fields are endangering lakes, rivers and seas.
Air pollution is one of the most serious ecological problems. Factories, power stations and
motor vehicles release lots of carbon dioxide and other gases into the air. They trap the sun's heat and this makes the Earth warmer. This is the main cause of the greenhouse effect and the global warming. These gases can dissolve in water in the atmosphere and then fall to the Earth as acid rains. Such rains kill animals and destroy buildings. Industrial countries should control their levels of air pollution to solve this problem.
Littering is a dangerous threat for people and their lives. We live among waste we have created ourselves - throwaway packaging and wrapping. The most effective way to solve this problem is recycling. In fact, 60% of rubbish from homes and factories can be reused. Local governments should support the idea of recycling and provide each yard with special bins for different kinds of waste and build special recycling plants. Recycling not only helps to get rid of litter but saves energy and raw materials.
Deforestation adds much to the environmental disasters. Forests are disappearing all over the world. People cut down trees because they need wood and paper. Many animals and birds die because they lose their homes. But the most serious problem is disappearing rainforests which are the lungs of the Earth.
The ozone layer protects the Earth from the sun's ultraviolet radiation which can damage our skin and cause cancer. CFC substance which is used in refrigerators and aerosols can destroy the ozone layer and can cause the ozone holes. To avoid it we should use ozone-friendly aerosols and do not keep refrigerators opened for long.
Most of the energy we use today comes from coal, oil and gas. But they are running out. Besides, burning them is harmful for the atmosphere. We must use the nature-friendly kinds of energy, for example, wind, solar, wave energy and others.
In recent years the pollution problems have received great publicity. The environmental movement and ecological organizations have gained trust and support. Many people started to realize that to keep air and water clean strict pollution control is necessary.
The protection of nature is becoming a political programme in every country. Numerous antipollution acts led to considerable improvement of the ecological situation. Modern purification systems and filters have been installed in many plants in different countries; measures have been taken to protect rivers and seas from oil and litter. Wildlife reservation models of undisturbed nature are developed in some parts of the world.
We, ordinary people, can also contribute towards saving our planet and our actions can really make difference to our future if we follow some simple ecological rules. Firstly, we can keep our environment clean. In fact, we can stop littering, throwing away packaging and wrapping, buying packaged goods. We also can go to the shop with our own bags. We can take as much rubbish as possible to local recycling centres. Secondly, we can save paper, water and energy. For example, we should use our electronic devices when it is necessary. Thirdly, we can save the air. Actually, we can use ozone-friendly aerosols. We can also stop using personal cars and use public transport or bicycles instead of our cars. Besides, we can help wild nature. We should stop hunting animals, cutting down trees; we can plant new trees and flowers. It’s a good idea not to make fires in the forests and to feed wild animals and birds. In addition, we can try to reduce noise pollution. It is very important to keep yourself informed about environmental problems. Your example can encourage your friends to do the same. The Earth will be saved.
But the environmental problems have grown beyond the concern of a single country. Their solution requires the cooperation of all nations.
