Our family

We are large and friendly family. There are six of us: grandfather, grandmother, mother, father, my younger sister and me. I have got an elder sister, too, she is 22 years old, but she doesn`t live with us. She is married. She has a little family of her own: a husband and a child – a two-year old boy.

Our grandfather is a scientist. He is on the wrong side of sixty-five, but he doesn`t want to retire. He works at the university. He works part-time. He goes to the university two or three times a week and delivers lectures to students and does scientific work. On the days he is at home, he works in his study, preparing for his lectures and writing a book.

Our grandmother is retired. She was a teacher and worked at school. She is the recognized head of the family. She keeps house. Of course we help her about the house. My sister washes the dishes, sweeps and washes the floor. My work is dusting and vacuum cleaning. Our parents do most of the shopping. My mother and sister do washing. But most of the cooking is done by grandmother. She is a wonderful cook, and all our family likes her cooking very much.

My father is 45 years old. He is tall and well-build man with short black hair and grey eyes. He works at a big automobile plant as an engineer. He likes his work and spends most of his time there. By character my father is quiet man, while my mother is energetic and talkative. She is an economist and she works at a bank. She is intelligent, patient and always ready to help. I`ve got good relations with my mum.

My sister`s name is Anna. She has got blue eyes and lovely fair hair. She is a very good looking girl. Anna is three years younger than me. She does well at school. Anna has a good sense of humour and is very popular with her friends.

My name is Maxim. I am 17 years old. I resemble my mother in appearance but take after my father in nature. People say I`m an easy going person. I have a lot of friends. They come to my place very often.

I also have some other relatives: aunts, uncles, cousins. We are happy when we are together. It is really important to have a good family where all people are tactful, helpful and tolerant and respect each other. I like when all the members of our family are at home and nobody is in a hurry. We sit in our large living room, talk, joke and discuss our everyday affairs.
