The Carribean sea 200

The Antilles, especially in Cuba, have recently become a popular travel destination among European tourists. And it is in the Caribbean Sea – it stands third out of seven places in the world – where sharks’ attack on people are more than the average. First of all we are talking about the islands and beaches of the Caribbean Sea itself as well as of the Bahamas and Florida. The greatest in number are the notorious White Sharks, although hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks as well as blue sharks and grey sharks are not far behind. Some of them, for example hammerhead and tiger sharks measure up to six meters and may weigh over a thousand kilos. Keep in mind also that some of these species hunl only in the coastal area. Blue sharks for instance may attack at a depth of less than 1 meter. Besides, being relatively small - up to 3 meters - they hunt in shoals. Attacks on people especially on little children paddling in the water are frequent here. 200

На жаль, досі не знайдено універсального способу захисту від нападів акул. Можливо, відносну гарантію дають натягнуті вздовж пляжів металеві сітки. Але й вони часто рвуться під час штормів і від корозії, проте це дійсно відносна гарантія. Тому, якщо ви вирушаєте в екзотичну країну, будьте готовими до того, що там доведеться бути обережними, коли йтиметься про грізну й непередбачувану стихію – море. На одних курортах небезпека висока, на інших – нижча, проте ці холоднокровні вбивці є повсюди. З кожним роком все більшає й більшає акул-людожерів. 199

Антильські острови, особливо Куба, віднедавна стали дуже популярними серед європейсь-ких туристів. І саме в Карибсь-кому морі є три із семи місць у світі, де напади акул на людей більш ніж реальні. Це, в першу чергу, острови й узбережжя самого Карибського моря, багами та Флорида. У цих місцях володарює сумнозвісна біла акула, втім, від неї не відстають і акула-молот і тигрова, і голуба, і сіра. Деякі з них, наприклад, акула-молот і тигрова, досягають довжини шести метрів і важать понад тонну. Треба мати на увазі й те, що деякі з перелічених видів полюють лише в прибережній зоні. Бичачі акули, приміром, можуть напасти на глибині менше метра. Крім того, за відносно малих розмірів (до трьох метрів) вони полюютьь зграями. Тут часті напади на людей і особливо на дітей, які стоять чи бавляться у воді лише до колін. 200

Саме це море є рекордсменом з кількості видів акул, які водяться в ньому. Тут є всі: велика біла акула, акула-молот, тигрова, сіра рифова, білоплавцева, чорно-плавцева, рифова, піщана. Однак, і це дуже цікаво, небезпечні види акул з якихось невідомих причин уникають берегів Єгипту, віддаючи перевагу Судану, де їх повно, як оселедців у діжці, в кожній бухті. Ймовірно це тому, що єгипетське убережжя більш освоєно людьми, і акули стороняться галасливого сусідства. Найнебезпечніші види акул – біла акула і акула-молот – узагалі є вкрай рідкісними гостями в єгипетських водах. Але все ж частішають у тамтешній пресі повідомлення про напади акул на туристів. Тобто в Єгипті варто бути обережним, але не настільки, щоб забути про красу підводного царства, яка там просто чарівна. 201
