Aminoderm

Cicatrizant

Indications. As a prophylactic or treatment and healing agent for surface wounds, minor burns, and stasis ulcers. Not recommended for the treatment of superficial fungal infec- I ions.

I'rccausions. As with any antibiotic product, overgrowth I>y nonsusceptible organisms may occur. If this occurs, insti- lute appropriate measures. Articles in current medical lite- i al ure indicate an increase in the incidence of patients aller­gic to neomycin. The possibility of such a reaction should be borne in mind.

Dosage. Apply to affected parts twice daily.

Supplied. Each g of white powder contains: neomycin sulfate I

  1. mg, cysteine 2 mg, threonine 1 mg and glycine 10 mg. ] Plastic containers of 60 g.

Dimetane Expectorant-c

Antitussive-Decongestant-Expectorant

Indications. The temporary relief of coughing and the com- I plications of allergic states including manifestations such as i perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis. The symptomatic relief of cough, nasal stuffiness and rhinitis accompanying the com- j mon cold and other upper respiratory tract infections. Contraindications. Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredi- ] ents. Should not be used to treat lower respiratory tract symptoms including asthma.

Precautions. May cause drowsiness. Administer with cau- I tion to patient with cardiac or peripheral vascular disease or hypertension. The CNS (Central Nervous System) depres- | sant effect of brompheniramine maleate and codeine phos- j phate may be additive with that of other CNS depressants. Antihistamines should be used with caution in patients with narrow angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal I obstruction, symptomatic prostatic and bladder neck obstruc- ] tion.

Codeine may produce drug dependence and therefore has j the potential for being abused.

Overdose. Symptoms. May vary from CNS depression to 1 stimulation. Stimulation is particularly likely in children | as a result of antihistamine overdosage. Atropine like signs j and symptoms such as dry mouth, fixed, dilated pupils, flu- \ shing and gastrointestinal symptoms may also occur. Treatment. If vomiting has not occurred spontaneously, the patient should be induced to vomit. This is best done by j administering syrup or ipecac. Precautions against aspira- j tion must be taken especially in infants and children. If vomiting is unsuccessful, gastric lavage is indicated within 3 hours after ingestion and even later if large amounts of milk and cream were given beforehand. Emesis or lavage should be followed by the administration of activated charcoal. Stimulants should not be used. Vasopressors may be used to treat hypotension. Naloxone may be used to treat codeine toxicity.

Dosage. Adults: 5 ml 4 times a day. Children: 2,5 to 5 ml ,'i or 4 times a day, as prescribed.

Supplied. Each 5 ml of palatable, cherry red liquid, men- 1 hoi and raspberry taste and odour, contains: bromphenira­mine maleate 2 mg etc.

Norfemac

Topical anti-inflammatory

Indications. Topical symptomatic treatment of the following conditions:

Dermatology: eczematous conditions, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, stasis dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, nummular dermatitis, erythema solaris, folliculitis, neuroder­matitis, inflammatory sequelae of psoriasis, pruritus of vari­ous origin, diaper rash.

Obstetrics and gynecology: vulvitis and pruritus vulvae, inflammatory sequelae of episiotomy.

Proctology: acute hemorrhoids, anorectal pruritus and anal fissures.

Phlebology: phlebitis, superficial thrombophlebitis. Radiotherapy: radiodermatitis.

Warnings. Pregnancy: since Norfemac (bufexamac’s) safe use in pregnancy has not been established, the drug should not be used in pregnant women unless the potential benefits out weigh any potential hazard to the fetus.

Adverse Effects. Rare instances of local irritation mani­fested as burning sensations and pruritus have been reported. These reactions are usually mild and do not usually necessi­tate discontinuation of treatment.

Dosage. Apply the cream or ointment 2 or 3 times a day in thin layers with gentle massage to enhance dermal penetration. According to the indication, a dressing can be utilized. In he­morrhoidal and anorectal conditions, apply with a rectal can­nula. The length of treatment is dependent on evolution of I he lesions; however, a 15 day treatment is usually sufficient.

The cream is indicated for acute and oozing lesions, whereas I he ointment with a dressing is Useful for application to dry, scaly lesions.
