Task 26. Get to know some additional terms. They will sure help you to understand the sense of touch better:

Golgi-Mazzoni corpuscle — an encapsulated sensory nerve ending similar to a pacinian corpucle (see below in this task) but simpler in structure Krause’s corpuscle (Krause’s end bulb, corpuscle of Krause) — any of various rounded sensory and organs occurring in the skin and mucous membranes (as of conjunctiva or genitals). These formations are probably cold receptors as well Meissner’s corpuscle (tactile corpuscle, corpusculum (actus, touch corpuscle) — any of the numerous minute bodies in the skin, especially that of the fingers and toes, and some mucous membranes that consist of a group of t ells enclosed in a capsule, and contain nerve endings

Merkel’s corpuscles (tactile disk, meniscus tactus) — a specialized tactile sensory nerve ending in the skin characterized by a terminal cuplike expansion of the nerve fiber in contact with a single modified cell Pacinian corpuscles (corpuscula lamellosa) — small oval bodies in the skin of the fingers, in the mesentery, tendons, ligaments and elsewhere that are sensitive to vibration and pressure

proprioreceptor — a sensory receptor that is located deep in the tissues (as in skeleton or heart muscle, tendons, the gastrointestinal wall, orthe carotid sinus) and that functions in proprioception (as in response to changes of physical tension or chemical condition within the body Ruffini’s corpuscles — sensory end-structures in the subcutaneous connective tissues of the fingers. They are evidently thermal receptors somatosensory (perception) — relative to sensory activity elsewhere than the special sense organs and conveying information about the state of the body proper and its immediate environment tactile — a person whose prevailing mental imagery is tactile rather than visual, auditory, or motor tactile cell — any of the oval cells that are in close contact with the ends of nerve fibers in the deeper layers of the epidermis and dermis of some parts of the body tactile receptor — an end organ that responds to light touch

touch — the act of perceiving through the tactile sense; feeling gently with the aim of appreciating and understanding

Task 27. Do the text thoroughly and make a brief summary of the structure and physiological aspects of touch sense:
