Ex1. Study the use of the Suppositional mood in object clauses.

  1. He suggested that we should begin at once.

  2. He will insist that we should do it at once.

  3. He arranged that we should stay the night in the empty school – building.

  4. She demanded that they (should) take a taxi.

  5. He advised that I consult the doctor.

Ex2. Translate into Russian.

  1. It was arranged that the town be evacuated by the morning.

  2. It was ordered that no ship should leave the harbor before daybreaks.

  3. I do not demand that you should memorize the text.

  4. It's not in the least important that you should remember the exact dates only that you should have a general idea of the period when the plays were written.

  5. Do you suggest that we should give up the idea?

  6. It is advisable that you fully realize the obligations you are now taking upon yourself.

  7. Is it important that the sitting take place tonight?

  8. I don't insist that you do it now only that it should be done.

  9. It was requested that all those who wanted to join the dramatic society should register with the monitor.

  10. I suggest that we start now.

Ex3. Open the brackets using the Suppositional mood or Subjunctive I.

Ex4. Paraphrase the sentences using the Suppositional mood.

1. He insists on being given another chance. 2. She suggested renting a country house for the summer. 3. He recommended me to accept the offer. 4. She requested us not to bring up the subject in his presence. 5. The teacher recommended us to make it a rule to read English newspapers every day. 6. I advise you to stop hesitating about inviting him.

Ex5. Translate into English.

Ex6. Replace the infinitives in brackets by the Suppositional mood or Subjunctive I.

Ex7. Complete the following sentences, using the words in brackets.
