The Past Simple Passive

1.3. Put the following sentences into the Passive Voice.

1. They built this house in 1950. 2. Somebody locked the front door. 3. Someone broke my pen last night. 4. They punished the boy for that. 5. They finished their work in time. 6. They allowed the children go to the Zoo. 7. The secretary gave the letter to her boss. 8. My mother told me the news yesterday. 9. Her parents gave her a computer for her birthday. 10. Their friends sent them their photos last week.

1.4. Use the Past Simple Active or the Past Simple Passive instead of the infinitives in brackets.

1. They (to go) into the storeroom where some of the goods (to keep). 2. He (to make fun of)? But he never (to answer) back. 3. The book (to put) on the shelf. No one (to take notice of it). 4. The Future Simple Passive

1.5. Put the following sentences into the Passive Voice.

1. People will forget it very soon. 2. They will translate this book next year. 3. They will tell you when they come. 4. Someone will ask him about it. 5. She will send the telegram soon. 6. The boy will read a book next week. 7. The children will get presents next month.

1.6. Ask questions to the following sentences according to the pattern.

Pattern: They will send Jane abroad.

When will she be sent abroad?

1. He will read the lecture on Dickens. 2. The milkman will bring milk. 3. Someone will give you this book. 4. They will put an end to this sort of practice. 5. His friends will give him a lot of presents. 6. His mother will bake the birthday cake. 7. She will give your money back to you. 8. Sooner or later they will agree upon some plan.

The Present Progressive Passive

1.7. Make up sentences describing what is being done now.

Pattern: The hens / to feed / my brother.

The hens are being fed by my brother.

1. The money / to count. 2. The windows / to clean / me. 3. The car / to fix / in the garage. 4. The trees / to plant / in the yard. 5. The students / to examine / in this room. 6. The old castle / to reconstruct. 7. The grass / to cut. 8. A birthday cake / to make / in the kitchen.

1.8. Ask questions to the following sentences beginning with the words in the brackets.

1. Some record is being played. (What?) 2. The tourists are being shown around the city. (Who?) 3. A new film is being shown on TV now. (What?) 4. The forms are being filled by the tourists. (Whom… by?) 5. A lot of questions are still being asked about it. (Why? What… about?) 6. A new medicine is being tried at the hospital. (Where? What?)
