2.2 The Reproduction of Characters Speech

“The art of the novel starts only when the the novelist enlights the history like the substance that should be shown, that should be shown in such a way that it reveals its own story”, -written back in the 30's of the 20^th century by the founder of the narrative principles of models P.Labbock.

In the refining intellectual novel of Valeriy Shevchuk 'Eye Of The Abyss” starts to be shown and told through pictures or through dialogue constructed verbal words taken from bible quotations. “It was our favourite way of leading a discourse – through pictures”, - Myhailo Vasylevych refers in the second chapter of the novel, the main narrator-artist and calligrapher, the creator of the book – Peresopnytskogo yevangelia. It was him who brought the gift of world virtuous creation, strange masterful creations, that was right away declared as the most famous works from the time of Rebirth in Ukraine in the 16 century... It was him, feeling empty, after being under such pressure during the search of creative energy of pure water, leaving on a difficult and dangerous journey to gain sensation and strength, to defeat weakness. So from the first pages the fairy-tale plot about dead and live water gains legends and philosophic knowledge. And the main narrator takes the role of the judge and the accused, the creator of fascinating beauty and its victims, the hunter for miracles during the adventure to the saint Mykyta Stovpnyk.

After returning form the adventure that became a winding a path to himself, Myhailo Vasylevych enriches himself with refining creative energy that starts up in him once again: “So, I felt the fire the same way when I was writing Persopnytskogo Yevangelia, but the insults, drawings, lines and ornaments were different, like created by a different person.”

The same way Petro felt the fire, the creator of Zhytomyrske Yevangelia.

So in the process of uncovering this fake miracle that appeared to be the myth about Mykyta Stovpnyka, we get an approval about the miracle, which is the spirit of good: the sealed feeling in Myhailo Vasylevych's soul, not only after reaching “Eye Of The Abyss”, but convinced with with his own eyes: I did it not in vain, but for the good. Because of this, it has been copied by father Dymytriy, and the pupil Petro breathed it and living his life the right way, becoming stronger.”

The Idea – a safe world in all and good people included – based on the outlook of the Eye Of The Abyss – symbol of light and dark, good and evil, wiseness and foolishness: “Mind could be in foolishness and foolishness in the mind”.

So the human mind is like sea waves, unsure and sure. So these are one of the most deepest whirlpools in the world. Also in this whirlpool there's an eye – feeling, that knows, hears, sees and guides you God. But here there can also be a whirlpool – God or the Devil... because of this we always have to act like beasts, steady-steady brother Myhailo. Careful and not so sure of ourselves – that's the second eye of the abyss, because God himself decides our fate here.

With the same speech, one of Myhailo Vasylevych's assisstants turns to him – Sozont – wise man from Kyiv . These lines could be considered as one of the main ones, but in the picturesque and in the context of all the lines and other interesting ideas of Sozont, applied aphorisms, they are used as on of the largest concepts, that keeps the reader under intellectual pressure. Above all – it's the dialogues of Mykyta Stovpnyka and the wise man Sozont, peculiarities of Zoila and Homer.

The collision of diameter-opposite views on the source of the abyss in the human soul is the actual person. The one that creates and confesses beauty. “Your sin is that you fell in olove with the worlds beauty, but the worlds beauty – is the Devil himself. And, although you wrote this saints letter, God didn't light your candle but the Devil. A saints letter doesn't require excellent writing, beautiful drawings and ornaments, it's beautiful and excellent with all together, and it's enough for him.

What can actually overcome the Devils favourite usage?! Vasylevych shows him “strange works of his hands”, so the translation of his beauty and his hard work of his literary creation according to history itself led to receiving “first place among Ukrainian and in all among Eastern Slovan handwritten works (M. Vozniuk), if it concerns taking into consideration the abundance of ornamental motives or the same work that Myhailo Vasylevych from Syanoka in Halychyna had to do.

The voice of Sozont strengthens Myhailo's belief in what “the worlds beauty – Gods way in it, and the argument – the basis where it is seen, short-lived beauty – the basis on never-ending beauty”. On the levels of the shawls these opposite words which are connected of Myhailo Vasylevych are very definite and expressed. And he can't place his stone on these or those shawls, until his eyes don't fall again on Peresopnytskiy yevangelia, and he whispered:

“- What's dark - let it be dark, what's light – let it be light; the night bird wouldn't want to fly in the day, and the day bird sleeps during the night. For the night bird the sun is the moon, but for the day bird – the sun is not the moon. There wouldn't be day if there wasn't night or the opposite. Everything is strangely connected with strange addiction. The truth lies here – not in the abyss, but the root of the human mind is not found here.”

This it the way the creation unfolds – through invisible contact with the actual literary work – the highest and the most hurting truth for a person. In Valeriy Shevchuk's novel it becomes visible and expressive than, for example, in the novel of Anatoliy Frantsa “Сад Епікури”, who wrote that evil is necessary. Because if evil didn't exist - good wouldn't exist, and with each and every evil, his honesty vanishes. Written aphoristically by Anatoliy Frantsa, while Valeriy Shevchuk's hero's reach their destination through suffering and tragic losses, through seeing the beauty of the world and appalling views of the world “controversial, mean, wretched, who were seen by the adventurers on Mykyta Stovpnyk's island, and those were the people to who the path to the eye of the abyss didn't open up to.

In a certain part the Eye Of The Abyss gains those strong points in the novel, that type of philosophic part, that's Voland's view in the novel “Майстер і Маргарита” of M. Bulgakova. We get the same compilation of Voland, who also deeply feels the human nature, the one who knows better than anyone else, that passion, that rules the world.

At the same time Eye Of The Abyss – largely formed and symbolized outlook, because it gives a push to the discussion of times, concentrated on never-ending ones. Eye Of The Abyss disappears, vanishes only during Godly songs, which basically gives some little time for Myhailo Vasylevych to breath. Eye Of The Abyss lies in high spirituality and ability of adventurers, the searchers for pure water. Eye Of The Abyss even keeps an eye on those who overcame it.

So of the three adventurers on the island of saint Mykyta Stovpnyk, only one unharmed managed to reach it. He should of seen it, like a lake, that was called Eye Of The Abyss, that “lied on the ground and turned upside down... The hair on my neck went up, and I yelled. But not in vain, but with a grudge. And my roar became like a sharp spear, struck by a warrior. And that spear struck through the space that divided us, and hit that transparent core and got stuck in it. After that blood came out of that eye. Dead blood from which I wanted to become free.”

The strange metamorphosis, it is the main point in the novel about a safe path to revealing the truth and purity – becoming free of “dead blood” of a persons uselessness. Because after overcoming the past Myhailo Vasylevych doesn't only get that spark of writing a new book, but the bitter truth opens up to him: “...I've felt and saw that there's nothing easier, distinguishing, better (than Peresopnytskiy yevangelia) I can never do”.

The miracle in Shevchuk's novel shows, how the author writes it himself, all those who desire to find the truth. Dozens of questions are under consideration for “Eye Of The Abyss” readers. Who can't give a straight answer, because is it possible? Scarcely you can overcome the uncertainty and ungodly realization of the world, but to be aware of your own soul – is a great honor, and a responsibility for everybody until the end of their lives.
