The general question belongs to the whole sentence and the answer for it is ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
Do you like ice-cream? – Yes, I do.
Can you speak English? – Yes, I can.
Are you a schoolboy? – No, I’m not.
Does Hyde Park have its own character? – Yes, it does.
Is Great Britain a member of the Commonwealth? – Yes, it is.
Special question
Special question belongs to a definite member of the sentence or to the group of words and requires a particular answer.
What is your name? – My name is Tanya.
Where do you live? – I live in Ukraine.
What do families usually give each other on Easter Sunday? – Easter eggs.
What does this factory produce? - It produces cars.
The word order in the special question is the following:
1) Question word (what, where, who, when, how, etc.)
2) Auxiliary verb (modal verb)
3) Subject
4) Main verb
5) Object
6) Adverbial modifier (of place, time, manner)
In special questions to the subject there is no auxiliary verb and there is the right word order. The subject is always considered to be in Singular.
