Rostov University was set up in Rostov-on-Don in 1915. The university is housed in several buildings all over the city. The main building of it is situated in the main street of Rostov, Bolshaya Sadovaya Street and houses only 2 faculties: the History Faculty and the Biology-Soil Faculty.
There are 11 faculties at the university. They are: the Economics Faculty, the Law Faculty, the Chemistry Faculty, the Philosophy Faculty and others.
The academic year begins in September and is divided into 2 terms: autumn term and spring term. At the end of each term, students take their credit tests and examinations. Final examinations are taken at the end of the course of studies. Students who have a bent for research work are recommended by the academic council to take a post graduate course.
The university has 3 departments: the day department, the evening department and the extra-mural department (or post-correspondence department). There is a computer center in the university.
My department is the evening department. I am a part-time student. It means that students of this department have to combine work and study. Four times a week we go to the university to attend lectures, seminars, colloquiums, to conduct laboratory works or have tests of different kinds. In summer, students have their practice in the Botanical Garden, at experimental biological stations or in research scientific institutes, in laboratories or at schools.
