He represented linguo-stylistic period in theory of translation the most brightly. He was thinking over the questions «What the translation is?», «what role have sentence and word in the structure of the text? », «which linguistic phenomena beсame a facts of historical culture? ».

He tried to find some relations between translation and some other subjects (for example pedagogics).

He was thinking about some limitations concerning translations on purpose to create a theory of special demands.

M. Zerov –belonged to the group of Ukrainian newclassikals. Made an excellent translations of ancient poetry, Russian poets, and French lyrics.

He suggested 5 demands of verse translation

-a lexical choices

-a very close attention of the translator to tropes and figures

-metrical peculiarities

-euphony of the original

-beauty of the native tongue.

V. Derzhavyn

Volodymyr Derzhavyn (1899–1964) was an outstanding Ukrainian scholar in the domain of Translation Studies. He is the author of the “translation-stylization” doctrine that opposes uncritical copying and supports autonomous creativity. V. Derzhavyn shaped the theoretical foundations of a Translation Studies review. He also paid attention to the publishing policies in general, as far as foreign literature in Ukrainian translation was concerned.

M. Rylsky translated Mickiewicz's "Mister Thaddeus", Voltaire's "The Maiden of Orleans", Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin", and many lyric works of European poets.

The biggest part of his life he deducated to translations from French Polish and Russian.

He translated nearly 60 Pushkin's lyric masterpieces and some big poems.

From Polish he translated Mitskevich's «Tadeush», «Konrad Vallenrod» a lot of lyric poems and sonnets.

In 1926 translated Victir Huho's tragedy called King is playing/

Moreover, Rylsky translated a lot from Italian, Spanish, Danish, Czech and some other languages.

Viktor Koptilov-one of the famous translators, theorist of translation, an author of articles about applied linguistic and language of some Ukrainian writers.

He was translating from Polish, English, German and French. Translated works by Anna Seghers, Walt Whitman, Vladislav Bronevskoho, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slovak, Francoise Sagan, and many other writers. He compiled and published in Paris enchiridion (довідник-посібник) called «Говорімо українською. Мова і культура» (1995) and added to it Ukrainian-French and French-Ukrainian dictionaries.

Roxolana Zorivchak-

Sphere of scientific interests:

researches of English phraseology;

theory of problems of translation;

historical and linguo-stylistic peculiarities of translations

entering of Ukrainian fiction into Anglophone world and entering of English literature into Ukraine.

Founded Shevchenko’s studies (in English) as separated branch of science.

Wrote nearly 700 scientific works.

Kulish is a prominent writer, hictorian, ethnographer and translator. His translating legacy includes thirteen Shakespear’s tragedies and comedies of worldwide renown. He also translated several poems by Goethe, Shiller, Heine, produced several free interpretations and free adoptions from Russian poetry.

Thus, Kulish is considered the pioneer of proper translation. He was one of the first who wished not only adijust the foreign work to the system of the Ukrainian language but also to preserve the formal structure of the original.The main using is that during the period of thirty years after Shevchenko’s death, Ukrainian literature due to the immense work “Europeanization” ha established itelf as a literature of a new European type, preserving of the sometime national wealth.

Starytskyi translated works of Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Nekrasov, Heinrich Heine, George Byron, Adam Mitskevych, Martin Andersen, Serbian songs and others. A significant event was the publication of "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare in translation by Starytsky (1882). He invited a lot of new words.

H. Kochur.

Former student of M. Zerov. Translated from ancient Greek, contemporary Greek, French, English, American classics. Gregory Kochur translated 130 authors from 28 languages.

He brought up a whole generation of translators.

He developed TS as a nation shaping factor.

Studied the history of Ukrainian literally translation. Translated Shakespeare’s «Hamlet», wrote literature researches « Shakespeare in Ukraine» and «Dante in Ukr. literature.», articles about writers that were lost\killed in 1930th.

Kochur wrote some splendid articles dedicated to his friend- Mykola Lukash. One of them is called «Феномен Лукаша».

He was rewarded with M.Rylskyi’s reward for his achievements in field of translation of fiction.
