7.2.5. Some possible ways of practical usage of the diagnostic method and its results

The main trend is the use of diagnostic figures in the formation of a persons adequate self-appraisal and self-consciousness.

7.2.5.1.While solving this task you should remember that the adequacy of self-appraisal depends on the correlation of its two main components due to the formula:

G

ASa = ---- (26),

P

where: ASa – the adequacy of self-appraisal,

G – gnostic component of self-appraisal,

P – protective component of self-appraisal.

As it is seen from the formula, the gnostic component has a positive influence on the adequacy of self-appraisal and the protective component – a negative one. That’s why a purposeful formation (correction) of self-appraisal should be directed to the increase of its gnostic component and the reduction of its protective component.

The quantity of a gnostic component is caused by 2 reasons: firstly, by the level of the development of gnostic (cognitive) characteristics making the intellect: sensations, perception, memory, thinking, imagination; secondly, by the quantity and quality of a person’s knowledge about himself.

As the development of the intellect is a hard and long-term process, psychological help in getting qualitative knowledge about yourself may be very useful in this process.

The quantity of a protective component is inversely proportional to the height of a person’s status, his health, the power of his nervous system, psycho-emotional steadiness and to the degree of real or imaginary aggression of the environment, especially socio-psychological one, which influences a person.

7.2.5.2. It also should be taken into account that the formation of self-appraisal is produced by comparison of estimated qualities and achievements with qualities and achievements of other people. A purposeful formation of self-appraisal assumes a person’s orientation on the model of specialist or on the standards of professional (personality) qualities.

7.2.5.3. A purposeful correction of self-appraisal is a gradual process, the complexity of which is proportional to the degree of non-adequacy of self-appraisal. You shouldn’t be hasteful, especially when reducing overestimated self-appraisal. Because excessive haste can lead to the conflict between the tutor and the pupil and produce a negative effect.

The effectiveness of purposeful self-appraisal forming process depends mostly on a feedback, i.e. on the operative diagnostic information about the pupils self-appraisal characteristics. To get such information you can use the method of the diagnostics of self-appraisal described in the present paragraph.

7.2.5.4. Using the method of self-appraisal, as actually diagnostic one, it is necessary to take into account that the adequate self-appraisal is the main condition of the reliability of the received results.

Chapter VIII the diagnostics of regulating and self-regulating influences

Human regulation and self-regulation processes have similar structures which consist of a number of levels corresponding to the levels of hierarchical structure of a person’s characteristics (see table 1) which they have influence on.

The characteristics of different hierarchical levels of this structure can be regulated (corrected) with the help of external influences: social, pedagogical, psychological, therapeutic. In this case the processes of regulation take place.

At the same time the regulation of characteristics on different levels of a person’s structure can be also performed with the help of internal influences on them made by a person himself. When the object and the subject of regulation are one and the same thing, we deal with the processes of self-regulation.

The effectiveness of a “person – person” activity mostly depends on the transference (conversion) of regulation processes to the processes of self-regulation. So, the education is effective if it is converted into self-education, training – into self-training, control – into self-control, development – into self-development, etc.

A necessary condition of the effectiveness of regulation and self-regulation processes on any level of a person’s structure is a feedback based on the reception of operative information about the object of regulating and self-regulation influences. So, it’s impossible to drive a car without any operative information about the direction, its speed and technical state (condition), etc.

Let’s look through the procedure of the diagnostics of regulating and self-regulating influences on a person at different levels of a person’s structure (see table 1).
