Chapter VI the diagnostics of psychological characteristics of personality

The psychological characteristics of personality are: needs which stipulate a person’s activity, personality orientation which determines the way this activity is oriented on, motivation which is connected with a person’s interests, self-consciousness closely connected with self-appraisal and also such characteristics as psycho-emotional steadiness, reliability in extreme situations, emotional reactivity, stability, anxiety, etc.

Being stable psychological characteristics, many of them are conditioned by frequent repetitions of the corresponding psychic states and processes typical of this personality.

So, frequent states of anxiety form personality anxiety, typical emotional manifestations form emotional reaction and so on. In its turn, personality characteristics cause corresponding psychic states. For example, people with high emotional reactivity are more sensitive to some irritants than those with low emotional reactivity, etc.

The diagnostics of psychological characteristics of personality can be performed by the apparatus ATS-6 using both instrumental and non-instrumental methods. The present chapter will contain instrumental methods of the diagnostics of psychological characteristics of personality and the Following one will describe non-instrumental methods – together with the methods of the diagnostics of socio-psychological and social characteristics.

§1. The diagnostics of psycho-emotional steadiness

6.1.1. General description

Psycho-emotional steadiness is the steadiness of psychic state in extreme and strained situations. There are some professions which make great demands of a person’s psycho-emotional steadiness, especially in extreme situations. For insufficient psycho-emotional steadiness causes low psychological reliability leading, in its turn, to accidents, socio-psychological conflicts and failures.

Besides, low psycho-emotional steadiness in terms of tense and dangerous work often causes psychic frustration, mental disorder and diseases, i.e. it can damage your health.

6.1.2. The procedure of the diagnostics

6.1.2.1. Make the diagnostics of emotional reaction according to the rules of §1, chapter VI. Put down the result in column 3, table 18.

6.1.2.2. If you need to perform an express-diagnostics you can limit yourself to the measure of PSt. in the background condition. Put down the result in column 4, table 18.

6.1.2.3. Let your examinee be influenced by real or imaginary stressor (in the latter case you should model a stress situation), for example, it may be real or imaginary threat of painful influence (injection, inoculation, cauterization, the influence of electric current, etc.), socio-psychological influence (examination, disciplinary punishment, news of accident), etc.
