Appendixes formatting rules

Appendix is a part of the paper which has additional or inquiry meaning, but is vital for the topic coverage. Those can be various types of documents – copies of original documents, report summaries, clauses from instructions and rules etc. Those can be texts, tables, graphs, maps.

Every appendix should start with a new page with the written word “APPENDIX” in the upper right corner and should be named. In case there is more than one appendix, they should be numbered. Page numeration of the appendixes should continue the general numeration of the main text. The appendixes should be linked with the main text via references used with the word “SEE” (see Appendix 5). Every appendix should be mentioned in the table of contents.

The Final qualification paper defense procedure The final qualification paper defense preparation

Finished and formatted according to the described above requirements the final qualification paper is presented to the 1st supervisor, who gives his assessment and signs it. The form of the assessment is presented in the Appendix 3.

The master thesis and the assessment are sent for approval to the 2nd supervisor. The Master thesis needs just one assessment.

The final qualification paper defense order

The defense of the final qualification paper is held on the planned time during the Attestation Commission session. Besides the SAC members it is advisable for the supervisor to be present; it is also possible for the other Master students and administration to be present as well.

The following order of the final qualification paper defense is recommended:

1. The defense starts with the Master student’s report on the final qualification paper topic. The report time is limited to 15 minutes.

The report should start with the chosen topic actuality grounding, scientific problem description and the aim formulation followed by description of the main content. Special attention should be paid to critical comparisons and assessments as well as own theoretical contributions and practical recommendations. The Master student should be able to recount the contents of the thesis freely, with no reading of the prepared written text.

The report should be supported by visual graphical material in the Power Point format, illustrating the main statements of the Thesis.

2. After finishing the student’s report the SAC members ask questions which can refer both to the Master thesis topic directly and to related areas. When answering the questions the Master student is allowed to use his/her Master thesis.

3. The 1st supervisor explains his / her assessment. Then the SAC members and all the interested persons might take part in the discussion.

4. As soon as the discussion is finished the Master student is granted the concluding remarks, which should contain positive or defend comments on the feedback.

5. SAC final decision is based on:

- the supervisor’s master thesis assessment;

- the SAC members assessment of the thesis content, defense, answers to the questions (+/- 0,3-0,7);

- observation of deadlines of submitting master thesis (- 1,0).
