1. Course description
The discipline “The role and importance of international journalism in the context of globalization”
Discipline is an elective course, it introduces the study of the necessary journalist subjects included in the curriculum for qualified media specialty 5V050400 and specialization "international journalists."
Philosophical, psychological, literary and economic knowledge helps students to better understand the basics of the specialty, to develop rigorous and precise criteria for evaluation of professional practice, to formulate its position on complex issues at the center of attention of national and international journalism.
Discipline “The role and importance of international journalism in the context of globalization” consists of two series: "The specifics of international journalism" and the "Report on the international Theme ." In the study of the first cycle, students receive a set of theoretical knowledge about their chosen profession. Concepts and ideas that they learned at this stage of education, will be refined and expanded in the study of other subjects in the classroom. Theoretical foundations of the profession reflect the general, basic categories: the journalist, the role and function of the press, freedom of the press, the mass audience, the effectiveness of journalism, etc. In addition, students will become familiar with the basic concepts and theories of foreign journalism and trends in the global media space, imbued with the specific operation foreign media, will get an idea of the legal regulation of journalism abroad. The second cycle includes in-depth theoretical development of skills in the collection, processing and dissemination of information on the international theme.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE COURSE — with reference to international journalism to form the fundamentals of democratic and humanist-oriented knowledge of the general principles of the media, including general rules of journalism, foundations media organizations, as well as methodological characteristics of students in entering into the sphere of modern journalism, to give a systematic view of the status and functioning of the modern international Journalism in its modernization on practical material for the media. The course is also intended to provide students with the ever-changing communications environment in different regions of the planet.
Tasks of discipline:
- Determination of discipline in the formation of identity in professional media activities; - Development of theoretical orientations and bases approach to the analysis of phenomena journalistic practice; - Formation of methodological principles of journalistic study subjects; - Mastery of the fundamentals of the theory and methodology of foreign media; - Development of the system of practical skills in the international department of the domestic media

Note: One credit equals one hour of classroom academic student work per week (1 credit = 1 Acad. Hour), the SIW-course work, SRSP - self-study student under the guidance of a teacher; SIW - self-study student.
As a result of mastering a course of lectures, seminars, study of theoretical sources, as well as self-study student should acquire theoretical knowledge of his chosen profession, to get an idea of the state of the system and the functioning of the modern international journalism, learn to use the terminology and conceptual apparatus, secure the sustainable skills with the special literature, to use the acquired knowledge and skills in the study of specialization subjects and in their practice.
As a result, training course students should кnow:
- Special features journalism in different countries, the history of research technology in the mass media;
- Elements of theoretical and empirical research media;
- World experience of studying audience problem "hot spots" of the world as the desire of the "fourth estate" to strengthen their position in society;
- The "pros" and "cons" of modern journalism in its manifestations such as satellite broadcasting and cross-border, development of the Internet, multilingualism media in international contacts.
- The world experience of journalism and picture displays an international basis journalism in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Be able: to: - to identify methods of international journalism; - to analyze the psychological characteristics of the perception the media; - to compare features of electronic and print media in the international community. - to use in practice the knowledge of the "code of honor" and the ethics of the journalist, giving equal rights and opportunities in the media worldwide.
