For successful development of apparel industry in Russia and other countries it is necessary to pass to the new level of apparel manufacture, functioning with the focus on high technologies. Nowadays, computer-aided design modules and programs become an inherent part of any production process. Fashion design and construction development area is also subject to automatization. Computer-aided design (CAD) is increasingly being used in the fashion design industry. A growing number of designers translate their hand sketches to the computer. CAD allows designers to view designs of clothing on virtual models and in various colours and shapes, thus saving time by requiring fewer adjustments of prototypes and samples later.
Currently the consecutive order of garment design process is displayed by following basic stages:
Artistic and technological sketch development.
Fabric and sewing methods selection.
Basic pattern and seam allowances development according to the sketch and sewing technology.
Pilot sample production.
Improvement of the model by sketch, technology and pattern adjustment.
Pattern grading and development of complete documentation for the model description (pattern layout, sketches, technological order and so on). It is a designer who interrelates design, technology and pattern in modern CAD.
