Scarves and hats are remarkably practical items, intended to keep us warm. But like everything else they, too, come in and out of fashion and can make or break an outfit. Scarves are the perfect accessory for combining style and function.
The wearing of scarves tend to follow current trends. Depending on the style, they can be worn indoors and outdoors and are worn increasingly with suits. Silk, chiffon and other light scarves can be tied in a number of different ways.
You can wear a big square scarf many ways. Tie it at the back, cowboy style or drape it over your shoulders. Remember, that they call attention to your upper part of the body and away from your hips.
Lesson Nine. Clothes and Technological Advances
Text A. Innovative Clothes
Text B. Innovations in Fashion Design and Garment Production
Reading for general understanding
Text a. Innovative Clothes
Fashion is a reflection of the times, and this incorporates current scientific and technological developments. High-tech fashion uses advances in science and technology to design and produce innovative fashion products. Methods used in high-tech fashion borrow from technologies developed in the fields of chemistry, computer science, aerospace engineering, architecture, industrial textiles, and athletic wear. As technology becomes more integrated with one’s everyday life, its influence on the fashion one wears continues to increase.
Researchers are developing innovative clothes with essentially new, unique functions, so-called “intelligent smart” clothes. In a modern society there appear new requirements for essentially new clothes (clothes with the communication and navigation systems, clothes with systems for control of arterial pressure and physiological processes in the organism, etc.).
The innovative technologies allow to interpret design object as “intelligent” (electronic clothes, clothes with application of light-emitting diodes on fabric surface, clothes changing the form depending on external influences or wearer’s breath, capable to warm “emotional” clothes with touch sensors).
Advances and innovative thinking in the approach to the design process and clothes manufacture will help to develop prototypes of wearable electronics and to explore the synergy required between computer science, fashion, health care and defense to produce user- and environment- friendly products. Technological advances continue to influence fashion that predicts and reflects the look and lifestyle of the future.
