Exercise 5. Return to the text “Elements of Design: Shapes” to decide whether the following statements are true or false.
It is practically impossible to distore the shape of the human body through clothing design.
A tight-fitting garment is more popular with women than an easy (semi-) fitting one.
Inverted triangle with wide shoulders and narrow skirt is especially good for large bust.
The tall, thin figures look best of all in the garments of square round and hourglass shapes.
Straight line sheaths and tailored suits can camouflage various figure irregularities.
The basic shape of the garment of every fashion period can be modified or re-style in design.
Exercise 6. Translate the sentences paying attention to the word “one”.
One silhouette can’t be suitable for all figure types.
Semi-fitting garments are more preferable for most women than tight-fitting ones.
One should be very careful choosing colour and texture of the garment not to destroy one’s appearance.
I prefer expensive leather shoes to cheap ones.
This dark green dress fits you much better than that black one.
One should know basic elements and principles of design to become an expert in designing.
Exercise 7. Choose the correct answer to match the shape of the garment and its description.
It is characterized by wide shoulders, narrow skirt, dolman or raglan sleeve. Most suitable style to minimize large bust.
a) hourglass b) rectangle c) combinations
d) inverted triangle
Generally this style is recommended for the very thin figure. Capes, boxy jackets, straight or boat shaped neckline. If well planned and designed can camouflage figure imperfections.
a) oval b) square c) triangle d) round
This style is the least attractive on the very young and the very thin figures with its straight clear-cut lines or loose graceful folds which slenderize figure.
a) rectangle b) inverted triangle c) oval d) hourglass
