University Life
I am a student of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. It should be mentioned that the student’s life is as much interesting as intense and strenuous. Our students attend classes, make notes of all the lectures, present reports and discuss them at their seminars. We try to develop the ability to independent work as we are eager to be good students.
After classes we work much, sitting for our seminars and practical classes. Special reading-rooms are provided for this purpose at our hostels. A lot of students prefer to work at the library where they have all the necessary books, journals and magazines at their disposal. We can also look through the latest issues of different newspapers there.
Many of us like to borrow the necessary books at the library and work at home or in our rooms at the hostels especially when there is some need to work late in the evening. We understand: the more we work during the term – the easier it will be to pass our exams at the examination sessions which we have at the end of each term. And what is the main thing – the more qualified specialists we’ll become.
Different students’ societies and clubs at our university also help to deepen the students’ knowledge in various sciences. Many students participate in scientific researches at the university chairs and their papers were acknowledged to be the best at the regional and international conferences.
Appropriate conditions are created not only for studies and research, but also for the students’ rest. Many students take part in amateur societies. Nowadays, 12 amateur art groups comprise over 400 students. They also have good opportunities to go in for sports in different sports sections.
We understand that a modern specialist is to be able to read foreign literature to draw the latest information necessary for work. So we pay much attention to our English. We work hard to improve our skills in pronunciation, to enrich our vocabulary.
The university possesses an excellent system of hostel accommodation. It owns three hostel buildings with capacity of over 2000 students. Rooms are fully furnished and consist of an apartment like system with a two-bed and a three-bed room with an attached toilet. On each floor there is a common hall and a common kitchen for cooking. A lot of students of our university receive scholarship and are provided with hostel accommodation.
After examination session our students have vacation which last for two weeks in winter and two months in summer. During the holidays many students go to sanatoriums, rest homes, sport camps, etc.
