9 Билет Quarrels with England.

In 1700's E-d claimed much of North America. In 1754 more than a million and a half people lived in British colonies in North America. Only 100,000 people lived in the territory of New France. In order to protect their territories the French built forts along the Mississippi and the Ohio rivers. But British people lived there and that is why they were a bit alarmed. The governor of Virginia decided to give the French a choice. They could either leave the Ohio River or risk a war. The governor chose a 21-year old George Washington to deliver the message. The French general made it clear that he would not leave the valley. The governor of Virginia responded by sending a group of soldiers under the command of George Washington to the Ohio River in June 1754.

The battle that followed marked the start of the war that lasted 7 years. The British called it the French Indian war because they were not only the French but also Indian groups that helped France.

In 1765, Adams started a number of secret clubs in the colonies. Members were known as the Sons of liberty. They worked together to fight the new taxes. Women started a group called the Daughters of Liberty. In 1765 just a month before the Stamp Act was to go into effect, representatives from 9 colonies met to protest the new law. The meeting was known as the Stamp Act Congress. These protests finally convinced Parliament that people in the colonies would never accept the Stamp Act. So in 1766 they repealed or did away with the law. Colonists celebrated wildly. Many believed the colonies' quarrels with Great Britain were finally over.

10 Билет (Boston Tea Party)

In 1767 Parliament voted to tax all tea, glass, paint, and lead sold in the colonies. When the news reached North America, people there were outraged. So many colonists stopped buying the taxed goods that merchants and manufacturers in Great Britain began to lose money. On the 5th of March, 1770, that anger led to bloodshed. The soldier was standing in front of the place where the taxes were collected. A group of townspeople gathered around him. The soldier became frightened and called for help. The soldiers rushed and in conclusion 5 people died and 6 were wounded. The governor promised to punish the soldier if he was guilty. Jury found that the soldiers were not guilty. For the next three years the colony was calm. Americas once again traded with Great Britain. They bought everything except for the taxed tea. Parliament decided to tempt the colonists into buying British Tea again. In every colony there were protests. On the 16th of December, 1773, a group of people dumped more than 300 chests of tea into the ocean. Colonists called this action the Boston Tea Party. When news of the Boston Tea Party reached London, members of Parliament were furious. The Tea Act was repealed with the Taxation of Colonies Act 1778. At the very least, the Boston Tea Party and the reaction that followed served to rally support for revolutionaries in the thirteen colonies who were eventually successful in their fight for independence.
