Независимый причастный оборот

(The Independent Participle Construction).

Обстоятельственные причастные обороты могут быть зависимыми и независимыми. Когда обстоятельственный причастный оборот относится к подлежащему предложения, он называется зависимым.

Inspecting the motor, the engineer made some valuable remarks.

Осматривая мотор, инженер сделал несколько ценных замечаний.

Когда причастие входить в состав независимого причастного оборота, оно выражает действие не подлежащего всего предложения, а существительного (или местоимения), стоящего перед ним. Таким образом, такой причастный оборот не зависит от подлежащего всего предложения.

Независимый причастный оборот в тексте можно узнать по следующим признакам:

1. перед причастием стоит существительное без предлога или местоимение в именительном падеже (самостоятельное подлежащее);

2. независимый причастный оборот всегда отделен запятой

Перевод независимого причастного оборота.

Если независимый причастный оборот стоит в начале предложения, то он переводится придаточным обстоятельственным предложением с союзами: Так как; поскольку; когда; если; после того, как (обычно с Perfect Participle). Причастие переводится личной формой глагола в функции сказуемого.

Например: The temperature reaching the boiling point, the heater will be automatically switched off.

Если температура достигнет точки кипения, нагреватель будет автоматически отключен.

The salts being catalysts, the rate of the reaction increases twice.

Так как соли являются катализаторами, скорость реакции увеличивается вдвое.

The work having been done, they went home.

После того как работа была сделана, они пошли домой.

Если независимый причастный оборот стоит в конце предложения, то он переводится самостоятельным предложением с союзами: причем, при этом, а, и, но.

Например: Acids react with oxides of all the metals, a salt and water being formed. Кислоты реагируют с окислами всех металлов, причем образуются соль и вода.

Упражнения.

1. Найдите предложения с независимым причастным оборотом и переведите их.

   1. This scientist being in our country got interested in our system of education.

   2. Mendeleyev being a great chemist, his name is well known all over the world.

   3. Having carried out a series of analyses, he could make some interesting conclusions.

   4. The scientist having carried out his investigations in the laboratory, we could ask him about the results.

   5. The phenomenon discovered by him helped us greatly in our research work.

   6. The melting point having been discovered, it was possible to continue our research work.

2. Измените предложения, используя независимый причастный оборот по образцу:

As my work is very difficult, he helps me.

My work being very difficult, he helps me.

1. As their lectures begin in the morning, they are free at five o’clock.

2. When the solution had been evaporated, they begin to examine the crystals left.

3. Since the speed of light is extremely great we cannot measure it by ordinary means.

4. When all the properties of this element had been discovered, it was much easier to use it.

5. As this machine works well, we can use it at our plant.
