- Extensive reading: read Ch. 12-13 of The Picture of Dorian Gray and respond to the following questions:
Who did Dorian write the two letters to? What do you think he wrote in those letters? Why?
Who is Alan Campbell? Why did Dorian ask him for help?
Why did Dorian go to the small, dirty house near the river?
“Keep quiet, or I’ll shoot you,” said a voice. Who and why said it? How did this person find Dorian?
What was your first opinion about Dorian and what do you think about him now?
- Diary: describe one unplanned situation/conversation that happened to you during the weekend. In the first sentence write what happened, then explain how and why it happened, who else participated, what you felt during that time and what effect that situation/conversation had on you and other participants. Please think of and write down an appropriate title for your narrative.
Listening to a story: please listen to Keesh written by J. London, describe the main characters in the story and write its main idea (explain why you think it is the main idea of the story; your arguments should be taken from the story itself).
For Tuesday, September 11:
Print and read The Crazy Scientist and The Princess, the stories created by Bainur, Ukulyay, Chansub and Aidana (our folder), fill in the missing phrases with the verbs “give, break, see and keep”. Make necessary changes in the grammar (tenses, articles, etc) and/or vocabulary. Bring the stories to the first class.

No diary for Tuesday! (You will write a descriptive paragraph, see the task below).
Listen to the Describing People 2 audio/text file (in the Descriptions of people folder), write down all sentences with the new words into your notebook. Use minimum five new words in your paragraph (see the task below).
Paragraph writing: please write about your favorite writer, poet or artist (painter). The first and the last sentences should contain the main idea of your paragraph, in other words, you need to introduce this favorite person of yours. Please tell me how and why you started to like this person, what you like in his/her work and mention a few books/poems/paintings of this person that you like a lot. Use minimum five new words in your paragraph from the listening task above. Please insert a photo of this person into your paper.

Intensive reading:
1. Read pp. 1-5 from Sredni Vashtar and answer the question:
“What does Conradin ask ferret for by saying:
What was that thing?”
2. Complete the story with your own ending.
3. Discuss “Keesh” (submit the main idea of the story and describe the main characters) and the story about gold and evil (submit your own end of the story).
