The fastest car in the world on the solar batteries is 'Solar Star" with a perfect aerodynamic form. Under the Australian sun, at the airport near Sidney, German racer Manfred German 'heated up' on a runway absolutely ecological racing car up to 135 km/h.

The Most Beautiful Automobile in the World is Rolls-Royce (1910 edition) with a strange name - "The Silver Ghost': its body is covered with 24-carat gold. Once it belonged to the king of Siam (Thailand) and was used for representation - mainly, for parades. In 1986 on auction in Monaco new owner of the luxurious auto paid for it 900 thousand marks.

The Best Selling Hybrid Car. Over 35,000 Toyota Prius hybrid cars have been sold in Japan. Launched on October 14, 1997, the automobile combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric generator which halves emissions and cuts smog chemicals by up to 90 per cent. Toyota designed the Prius as a more environmentally friendly car than conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, without losing out on performance, price or comfort. The Prius was launched in the USA in summer 2000.

The lowest car is a radically modified Austin Mini, named 'Lowlife' by its creator, Perry Watkins of Aylesbury, England. Measuring 60 cm (24 in) from the ground to roof, with 2.5-cm (1-in) ground clearance, it was completed in October 1999. Despite its diminutive size, the project cost $15,800. It took 18 months to plan and a further three years to build. Based around a 1967 Austin Mini, parts of a further three Mini bodies were welded into the final shell.

The Fastest Electric Car. The highest speed achieved by an electric vehicle is 395.821 km/h (245.523 mph) by the White Lightning Electric Streamliner, driven by Patrick Rummerfield (USA), at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, on October 22, 1999. Propelled by two 200 hp alternating current motors, this 1,111 -kg (2,450-lb) vehicle can reach 161 km/h (100 mph) in 8 seconds and has a theoretical top speed of over 482.8 km/h (300 mph), according to its makers.

The Fastest Land Car Speed. The one-mile (1.609-km) land speed record is 1227.985 km/h (763.055 mph), set by Andy Green in Thrust SSC in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, on October 15, 1997. Thrust SSC (Super Sonic Car) completed its record-breaking run in a matter of seconds, but was the culmination of six years of work and a six-week on-site campaign. Two and a half years of research went into the shape of the Thrust SSC, and building the most powerful car ever took a further two years and 100,000 man-hours

The longest car ever built is a 30.5-m long (100-ft), 26-wheeled limousine, designed by Jay Ohrberg of Burbank, California, USA. Used mainly in films and exhibitions, its features include a swimming pool with diving board and a king-sized waterbed. The car is designed to drive as a rigid vehicle, or it can be changed to bend in the middle.

The Smallest Street-Legal Car. The Peel P50 is 134 cm (53 in) long, 99 cm (39 in) wide, and 134 cm (53 in) high, smaller than an average fairground bumper car. The vehicle was built by Peel Engineering Co. at Peel, Isle of Man, UK, from 1962 until 1965. The lightweight single-seater car was capable of speeds of up to 64 km/h (40 mph). The car was not a big seller since it was very unstable, cramped and noisy. Neither did it have a reverse gear.
