Hi! PC is a personal Computer. An ordinary PC consists of hardware and software. Software is list of instructions called program. There are many types of programs. The most common classification is :

System software – programs that help users to configure the work of the system.

Multimedia software – programs that are related with pictures, music , video playing.

Internet related software – different kinf of browsers, programs that work through the net.

Security software – application that protect the system from viruses , Trojans etc.

Drivers - a kind of a special code that configures the work of hardware devices.

Hardware is what the PC physically composed of. So the main part of the PC, its brain, is a processor. It’s also called central unit. It’s function to control all other parts of the computer. To work in normal way computer needs energy. Powers block transmits energy to the PC from electricity. To store information the computer has Hard Disks. Hard Disk – is memory device. To listen to music on the PC ,it must have Sound Card. The same about video – computer has a video card. Information is transmitted by the CD-Discs, DVD’s, or something else. There are also a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. The monitor is output device. The keyboard and the mouse are input devices. After all these all components must be somehow connected with each other. Input and Output devices.

The main function of a computer is to manipulate and to store information. Input devices are used to load information into the memory of the computer or just to control it. There are lots of input devices. Three main input devices that every PC has are mouse, keyboard and a floppy disk. Additionally you can also connect a scanner , a touchpad , a joystick to play computer games, digitizing tablets, smart cards readers ,a CD-ROM , a microphone and others.

To show the user the result of an operation computer uses output devices. The main output device is a monitor. If you want computer to draw an image you should have a printer. Sound output goes through speakers.

Memory storage devices.

One of the main functions of the computer is to store information. There are many ways to do it. Memory storage devices fulfil this job. First devices were magnet tape, floppy disks, ZIP-drives.

The most widespread device now is hard disc. It has huge capacity that allows to store up to 200 Gigabyte of information on a single hard disk. Another memory storage device is CD-ROM. It can contain 700 Megabyte . But nowadays there are DVD devices. DVD looks like CD , but can store 6 times more , up to 4.5 gigabyte.

This is very good , but to carry DVD’s or even a hard disk is not very comfortable. So here we have easy-to- carry Flash cards. They are very small , just like a coin. They are used as a memory storage device in cell-phones, Pocket PCs, players, digital photo and video cameras. And the level of safety on such devices is very high.
