1. I live in Orel. 2. Orel is quite an old town. 3.It was founded in the middle of the 17-th century. 4.During the Great Patriotic War Orel became the scene of cruel fighting. 5. Since the war the town has risen from ruins and is finer than ever. 6. My town is not very large. 7. There are about three hundred thousand people who live here. 8. I like my town because it's my birthplace. 9. There are many squares, large parks, wide streets with beautiful buildings, cinemas, theatres and shops. 10. Every year hundreds of tourists come to Orel. 11. They want to visit the famous historical places of the town and other places of interest.
12. The main street of our town is not very long but it has a lot of modern and old buildings, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. 13. It's very green. 14. There are many cinemas in our town. 15. Today people go to the cinema not so often as before but young people like to do it. 16. We are proud of our museums: historical and art.
17. Our town is a town of the youth. 18. Hundreds of young people study at many institutes, schools, colleges. 19. We also have sportsgrounds, swimming-pools, gymnasiums and other good places where young people may spend their free time. 20. I like my native town very much. 21. I want it always to be beautiful and clean. 22. I’ll do everything for my town.
The Town Where I Live
1. My native town is situated in the Kursk Region. 2. It is an hour ride from Kursk. 3. Some people can't imagine their lives without theatres, multistoried houses and broad avenues all that's typical of every big industrial city.
4. There are no theatres, multistoried houses and broad avenues in my town, but still I do like it because I was born here, my parents live here and I've spent here almost all my life. 5. You may think that the life in provincial town is rather dull and far from being interesting. 6. Perhaps, you are right. 7. But I'll try to prove that this life has got quite a lot of advantages,
8. Every morning you get up and breathe in fresh air full of various scents which depend on a season: in summer it is a smell of fresh grass and flowers, in winter it is a smell of frost and snow which covers everything with its white thick duvet.
9. My native town becomes especially beautiful in early spring when there is a great many rose-shrubs in flower-beds and everything is in blossom. 10. This time I like to tramp down the streets lined with chestnuts, mountain-ashes and limes. 11. Those who want to have some entertainment can go to the Recreation Park that is famous for its carrousels and all sorts of side-shows. 12. Those who prefer dancing may go to a disco. 13. It's rather popular with young people especially teenagers.
14. It's a pity we have no concert-halls or theatres but you may go to the cinema and watch film there. 15. We have lots of opportunities to go in for sports because there are two big stadiums in the town. 16. I quite forgot to tell you that there are some good cafes in my town, you can call at any of them. 17. I am sure you'll like it there if you want to have some ice-cream or coffee or just have a talk with your friends.
Hobby
1 .Hobby is a favourite occupation of a person in his free time. 2. I have many friends. 3.Thеу are very different and they have different kinds of hobbies. 4. One of my girl-friends, for example, likes to knit very much. 5. In the evening she sits on the sofa and knits a beautiful pullover or a sweater. 6. She also knits for her little sister, her mother and her girl-friends.
7. Another girl-friend of mine spends all her time sewing things: skirts, blouses, dresses. 8. She makes it nicely and she always looks good.
9. One of my friends likes to make everything with his own hands. 10. He can repair an iron, a radio-set or a tape-recorder. 11. I think it's a very good hobby.
12. Many children and grown-ups are very fond of collecting. 13. Some collect old coins, others collect postcards. 14. As for me, my hobby is collecting stamps. 15. Now I have 5 albums full of stamps, it is more than one thousand of them. 16. I like to sit at a table in the evening and arrange new stamps in the albums, or write in the names of the countries, or just look through the stamps.
17. Each stamp has a story to tell about distant countries and new people. 18. I see pictures of people, birds and animals which I have never seen. 19. Kings and presidents pass before my eyes and I can follow the history of whole nations. 20. My hobby is not only wonderful but very useful, too.
