This accident happened on a Russian ship which was at berth in Haiphong. It was late in the evening. After a hard day work the crew was having rest. Suddenly the watch deck-hand noticed a fire aboard. The flames came out of one holds. He immediately reported to the bridge. The watch officer sounded the alarm signal. A few minutes later the emergency party started to fight the fire. The first sailor who came on deck was Yuri Razuvayev. He took up the fire-hose and directed water into the hold. The fire was dangerous not only for the Russian ship but for other ships and people ashore. The crew members were fighting the whole night. Finally they managed to put it out.

Yuri Razuvayev was all the time in the most dangerous places. He risked his life but he never stopped putting out the fire for a second. He fought courageously to rescue the life of other people. The brave man perished during that accident. He was only 23 years old. He graduated from the Odessa Marine School a few months before that voyage. He worked as an able-bodied seaman on that ship. The government awarded Yuri Razuvayev with Medal for Labour Valour. The Odessa Marine School entered his name in the honourable list of cadets.
