Types of tourism

There are many types of tourism. They depend on the purposes of travellers. They are international and domestic tourism, inbound and outbound, recreational and business. Tourism is not only pleasure. The more purposes travellers may have, the more types of tourism there will be. The various purposes of travel are: holidays , business , health , study , sports and many others. So, there are such types of tourism as cultural and educational, ecological and adventure, hiking and hitch-hiking, special-interest tourism, health and sports, holiday and resort tourism.

Special-interest tourism is popular with tourists connected with their hobbies, for example, cookery , bird-watching , painting. It may be an adventure holiday on an uninhabited island where travellers will watch exotic birds and plants in natural surroundings.

Leisure tourism is also called pleasure or holiday tourism when a person goes on holiday and does not travel on business. The purpose of tourism in this case is recreation. So, this kind of travelers go to sea resorts ,stay at resorts hotels. They enjoy organized entertainment and sport.

Sports tourism is a type of active holiday. The purpose of tourism in this case is to exercise and to keep physically fit.

Business tourism is a travel for business purposes. Businessmen travel on different missions. It can be on conference or seminar , international exhibition or trade fair.

Familiarization tourism (FAM) means that a business company sends its staff on educational tours in other cities or countries. The main purpose of travel in this case is to get knowledge from personal experience.

Transportation and tourism

Transportation is a vital sector in the total tourism industry. Without the modern high-speed forms of transportation that are available to large numbers of people, tourism would be possible only for a small group of population.

A very large percentage of domestic tourism now takes advantage of the automobile for transportation. In Europe, where the distance from one national board to another may be very short, automobiles are often used for international journeys. Coaches have replaced railroad on many routes.

For long-distance travel, the plane has replaced the train and the ship.

Ships still play an important role in tourism for the purpose of cruising. A cruise is a voyage by ship that is made for pleasure rather than to arrive quickly at a fixed destination.

Most cruises try to keep up a party atmosphere, with games, dancing, gambling.

The airlines are now very popular in the tourist industry. There are two kinds of airline operations, scheduled and nonscheduled.

A scheduled airline operates on fixed routes at fixed times that is available to the public. It is for people who go to the same destination, business travelers, people who is visiting relatives and friends and others who travel alone.

A nonscheduled airline operates on routs and at times when there is a demand for the service. The nonscheduled airline is, in other words, a charter operation that rents an aircraft.
