Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet of 19 century. Representative of literary movement of ROMANTICISM.

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, to a successful family with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive (отшельник) life (интровертной и затворнический жизнь).

Emily Dickinson's paternal grandfather (дед по отцовской линии), Samuel Dickinson, had almost single-handedly (единолично) founded Amherst College.

Dickinson's poems generally fall into three distinct periods, the works in each period having certain general characters in common.

  1. Pre-1861. These are often conventional and sentimental in nature.

  2. 1861–1865. This was her most creative period—these poems are more vigorous энергичный and emotional.

  3. Post-1866. It is estimated that two-thirds of the entire body of her poetry was written before this year.

Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.[1] His father, Clarence Edmonds Hemingway was a physician врач, and his mother, Grace Hall-Hemingway, was a musician. Both were well-educated and well-respected in the conservative community of Oak Park

3. S. Plath

Sylvia Plath (October 27, 1932 – February 11, 1963) was an American poet, novelist and short story writer of 20 century. Representative of literary movement of POSTMODERNISM (Genre - Confessional poetry).

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she studied at Smith College and Newnham College, Cambridge before receiving acclaim as a professional poet and writer.

Her mother, Aurelia Schober Plath (1906-1994), was a first-generation American of Austrian descent, and her father Otto Emile Plath (1885-1940), was from Grabow, Germany.[4] Plath's father was an entomologist and was professor of biology and German at Boston University; he also authored a book about bumblebees.[5] Plath's mother was approximately twenty-one years younger than her husband.[5] They met while she was earning her master's degree in teaching and took one of his courses.

4. Poe

Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic of 19 century, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction.[1] He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.
