Personal Viewpoints Chapter 1

  • How do children become social beings?

  • The effect on them, - Imitations of social behaviors of the surrounding people that she/he observes.

  • When a child is unable to observe the behaviors social development becomes confusing and incomplete.

  • How the development of social skills has influenced the lives of individuals?

  • How social skills are acquired?

  • Teaching social skills is more than just a matter of concepts and theories.

  • What is personal experience?

  • Social skills instructions.

  • How is the child’s socialization (the process of learning how to be a member of society) promoted at home, school and community?

  • What are the principles in having our children get social competence? How are they applied?

  • How are the social skills taught and expected to be acted out?

  • The emphasis of necessity of partnership between parents and professionals and recognize of diversity (difference) among families and children in teaching social skills.

Chapter 2. A Family Perspective on Social Skills Development

  • Families and caregivers (baby-sitters) are the most important advocates of the children in social and emotional development of children.

  • Each family must realize that they don’t have a perfect child but they can learn, grow and lead a rich and full life.

  • Teachers can introduce the families the strategies that promote socialization and interaction with others. They have possibility the most important key role in encouraging the families with right curriculum.

  1. Teaching social skills to students

  • Networking with other families and teachers allow families to seek out valuable resources and organizations for children that they ultimately effect the children’s social development and later success with employment and independent living.

  • Families must recognize and accept their children detailly with all characteristics, capacities, capabilities and tendencies.

  • Individuals and families are different and they progress their emotions and events in their lives differently.

  1. Family’s role in encouraging social skills

  • Family is a natural setting for social development in children.

  • Raising a child doesn’t need to stop the normal, everyday function of family’s social life.

  • Encouraging social skills in children can begin with a birth when parents, sibling, grandparents and dose friends begin communicating with an infant verbally, by touch and trying to eye contact.

  • They (families) should let them how their responsibilities in their families to survive and how appropriate social behavior and they should keep the balance between helping too much and providing too little support.

  • Interactions between siblings can play a very important role in bringing normally to the social development of a child.

Part II. Theories of Social Development

  1. How do children become socially skilled individuals?

satisfying interpersonal relationship?

communicate with each other?

Social development theory provides a framework for understanding the socialization process for children or students. These perspectives offer models that relate directly to practice. Although theory is often viewed as somewhat abstract, with the example there can be bridges between theory and practice. Then instructional curriculum can be settled to be applied.

  1. Teaching Social Skills to students

  • How social skills models are used as a means determine interrelation………….(?)

  • Theoretical perspective real contributes to an understanding of how personal stories and examples provided in proceeding chapters demonstrate the value of theory and it’s reliance to the teaching of social skills to students.

  • Theories of social developments are presented, illustrating the practical applications of each. Examples to illustrate the use of each model or theory are provided to connect abstract concepts to real-life situations.

  • Evaluation of social development theory to social development needs of each age.
