1 слайд (Introduction)

Advertising facilitates large scale marketing. It is a medium of mass communication. Manufacturers supply information about new products through advertising. The fact that companies spend crores of rupees on advertising through TV, radio and newspapers indicates its benefits in sales promotion. Advertising is within the scope of promotion which is one element in the marketing mix. It is getting popularity in the present highly competitive and consumer oriented marketing. All products old and new, consumer and durable, cheap and costly need extensive advertising for sales promotion and consumer support.

Advertising is an audio or visual form of marketing communication that employs an openly sponsored, nonpersonal message to promote or sell a product, service or idea.[1]:465 Sponsors of advertising are often businesses who wish to promote their products or services

Egyptians used papyrus to make sales messages and wall posters. Commercial messages and political campaign displays have been found in the ruins of Pompeii and Arabia.

In ancient China, the earliest advertising known was oral, as recorded in the Classic of Poetry of bamboo flutes played to sell candy. Advertisement usually takes in the form of calligraphic signboards and inked papers. A copper printing plate dated back to the Song dynasty used to print posters in the form of a square sheet of paper with a rabbit logo. Is considered the world's earliest identified printed advertising medium.

In Europe, as the cities of the Middle Ages began to grow, and the general populace was unable to read, instead of signs that read "cobbler", "miller", "tailor", or "blacksmith" would use an image associated with their trade such as a boot, a suit, a hat, a clock, a diamond, a horse shoe, a candle or even a bag of flour. Fruits and vegetables were sold in the city square f and their proprietors used street callers to announce their whereabouts for the convenience of the customers.

1.To reach new customers and generate sales. Your product, idea, service or event needs exposure to succeed; even if it’s not something people necessarily want or need right that minute.

2. The more you advertise on-line, the more likely a search engine will find you or your product. If Google or any other search engine ‘sees’ a certain product or service which is focussed in a particular way it will start to ‘return’ it more in search results.

3. To build and maintain a respectable brand image in the eyes of all customers, current and potential. People want to know that what you’re advertising is what you’re saying it’s going to be; 100%. They want to hear it from other people, be able to trust it and substantiate the decision to buy whatever it is you’re selling them.

Online Advertising - If you see an advertisement via the Internet (World Wide Web), then it is classified as online advertising. Another avenue of online advertising is "Native Advertising," which is the digital variation of the old print advertorials. And, sponsored content is growing by leaps and bounds.

Cell Phone & Mobile Advertising - A relatively new form of advertising compared to the others, but one that's dominating the media mix, uses cell phones, iPads, Kindles, Nooks, and other portable electronic devices with Internet connectivity. Current trends in mobile advertising involve major use of social media such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook.

Print Advertisingwhen - consumers tire of parts of digital advertising they are returned to the printed and tactile feeling and the permanence that they provide are definitely on the cards. Typically, print can be split into three sub-categories:

1)Periodical Advertising;

2)Brochures, Leaflets, Flyers, Handouts and Point of Sale Advertising;

3) Direct Mail Advertising

And there are other types of advertising.

Outdoor Advertising - Also known as out-of-home advertising, this is a broad term that describes any type of advertising that reaches the consumer when he or she is outside of the home. You will know it as billboards, bus shelter posters, fly posters, and even those big digital boards in Times Square.

Product Placement Advertising - In a nutshell, product placement is the promotion of branded goods and services within the context of a show or movie, rather than as an explicit advertisement.
