Dialog1.

A: Can I help you?

B: Yes. I’d like a hamburger and French fries.

A: Anything to drink?

B: A large Coke.

A: Anything else?

B: No, thanks.

A: Can I take you order?

B: Yes, I’d like a hot dog and chips.

On Board the Plane

Dialog3.

Lavrov: I’ve already had a delicious breakfast at the airport restaurant this

morning but I don’t mind taking coffee and some cognac and pastry if it is

fresh.

Flight attendant: Would you like to have black coffee with cream?

L: I’d like to take black coffee.

F. a. Please, help yourself to pastries, waffles or biscuits for your coffee?

Dialog4.

F.a.: Would you like another cup of coffee?

L.: No, thank you. Could I bother you for cigarettes?

F.a.: It’s no bother at all. Here you are.

L.: And will you bring me a magazine in English? I want to kill the time. I want

to kill time.

F.a.: Here it is.

L.: Thanks a lot.

F.a.: You are welcome.

Dialog5.

F.a.: What would you like to drink?

L.: Dry wine, please.

F.a.: May I pour some wine into your wine glass?

L.: Do, please. May I trouble you for a match?

F.a.: It’s no trouble at all. Here you are.

English breakfast

John: Do you stay at a hotel or do you rent rooms?

Boris: Some of us stay at hotels, some rent rooms and some live in the

dormitory.

John: So some of you have an English breakfast, don’t you?

Boris: You are quite right. I rent a room in an apartment house. I usually

have an English breakfast, but I prefer a Continental one. I hate

porridge.

John: Who doesn’t. None of us likes it.

Boris: I prefer ham and eggs, buttered toast with marmalade, cheese and

sausage.

John: Marmalade and buttered toast are so fattening.

Excercise 6. Make up the dialogues using the following statements:

B: Thanks a lot. No more cakes for me. I’ve had enough.

B: Breakfast is usually the most substantial meal, not just rolls and coffee.

Exercise 7. Render the following dialogs in English:

  • Интересно, как питаются у Вас в стране?

  • Это довольно индивидуально, многое зависит от образа жизни. Обычно мы едим три раза в день, как и везде.

  • Черный кофе, пожалуйста, без сахара.

  • С ликером?

  • Немножко коньяку, если можно, пожалуйста.

  • Конечно можно. Вот Ваш кофе с коньяком.

  • Сок или воду, пожалуйста. Я не пью крепких напитков.

Exercise 11. Make up dialogs based on the following situations:

  1. Tell you classmate where you prefer to have your meals when you are on a business trip. Give your reasons.

  3. You are the Aeroflot representative in London. Mr. Brown invites you to have lunch at a restaurant. Ask him about English meals.

  4. You are on board a plane taking you on a business trip to London. A flight attendant is serving breakfast. Describe the way she treats the passengers the meals she offers them. Ask her to bring you English magazines.

  5. You are having a business lunch with Mr. Smith at a restaurant. Ask him to help you make your choice.

  6. You are receiving English colleagues in Moscow. You invite them to the Metropol restaurant. 'There is a wide choice of dishes on the menu. Help your guests to make their choice.
