Books In Our Live.

Books… I think that we can’t live without them.

I consider that books are with us during all our live. When I was a child, my parents read them to me. I was pleased to listen to the stories and tales. I learned a lot of interesting things from books.

Are You Ecologically Friendly?

Environmental problems have become exceptionally acute all over the world, especially in highly industrialized regions.

1. The main environmental problems are:

a) Air pollution, water pollution, land pollution

b) Trash of all kinds

c) Acid rains

d) Energy leak

e) Oson holes

f) Green house effect

g) Radiation

h) Transport in big cities

2. Causes of pollution are numerous.

Air pollution is caused by bad breath of cars, Lorries, planes and of course by thousands of chimneys of factories, plants, chemical works. The concentration of harmful substances in the air is over ten times the admissible lever.

Water pollution is caused by chemical wastes. Every day chemical companies and different industrial enterprises dump their wastes into water.

Farmers spray chemicals on their crops to protect them from pests. These chemicals are called pesticides. They are very harmful for people, birds and animals.

Chemicals called sulfates are puffed by coal-burning factories. When sulfates makes up with clouds they make acid rain which falls and harms lakes, rivers, plants and creatures that need them. So sulfates from one place can fall as acid rain many miles away.

During the last 20 years people have started to realize the environmental problems because some lakes and rivers were turned into city or town dumps. Forests which were rich with animals have become empty. A lot of dangerous diseases have appeared because of pollution as cancer and different allergies.

The battle against environmental pollution is growing from year to year. First of all government of all countries are making tougher laws against air, water and land pollution. Special committees are established, which check the filters and cleansing designs at factories and plants. Scientists are looking for ways to make factories and cars run cleaner. For example, farmers in Illinois are trying fuel in their tractors made from soybeans.

One more important venture in the cause of cleaning our planet is recycling projects. Tins, cans, paper bags and other kinds of packaging are throw into special bins and then recycled.

People used to get energy from burning coal, now it became possible to get energy from the sun. Saving energy measures are being practiced now. Many countries are working hard to end acid rains.

In recent years people have become more sensitive towards the environment. Still more public organizations and unofficial environmentalist movements have been established with every passing year.

In 1987 a “Green Peace” public commission has been set up. Its main goal is to combine the people’s efforts for peace with the huge and ever mounting movement for nature conversation.

“Travels for Peace and Nature” is the name of another public movement that appeared in Russia some years ago.
