7. Needn't have and didn't need to. There are mistakes in some of these sentences. Find the mistakes and correct them.

Compare:

We didn’t need to hurry; we had lots of time. (It was unnecessary to harry, and we didn’t)

We needn’t have hurried – we got there much too early. (It was unnecessary to hurry, but we did)

1 We needn't have bought so much wine for the party because nobody drank much.

2 Mike needn't have gone to work yesterday, so he stayed at home.

  1. It was nice of you to phone and thank me, but you really didn't need to.

  2. Sue needn't have hurried home, so she took her time.

  3. Kate needn't have made lunch when she arrived home from work because her husband had already done it.
