9. Methodological guidelines

Assessment of the students' academic performance is administered continuously throughout the course based on the IITU Grading Scale. Students are credited against their performance during the two appraisal periods and the examination session, total 100%.

FORMATIVE (CONTINUOUS) RATING is students’ on-going performance assessed in class work, independent study (T/SIS) and mid/end-of-term tests. It consists of two attestations, 100% each. Continuous rating equals 60% of the final grade.

In continuous rating class work includes attendance/participation and performance.

Attendance/participation is assessed based on the number of lessons attended and participated by students. Students will be marked down for missing classes and not participating in class.

Performance covers all the activities done in class for consolidation of language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing and vocabulary/grammar quizzes on the topics studied. Speaking and writing are evaluated for task response, logical consistency, vocabulary range, grammatical accuracy. Listening and reading are evaluated for accuracy of comprehension measured by the number of correctly done assignments. Each aspect of the course is assessed on a 5-point scale depending on the quality and quantity of the respective work fulfilled.

SIS (Student Independent Study) consists of language exercises from PF and MEG, and the project “IT advancements in business”. Methodological support for TSIS performance is provided in Project Guidelines

TSIS (Teacher Supervised Independent Study) includes CV and formal letter writing. Writing is evaluated for task response, logical consistency/structure, critical thinking, vocabulary range, grammar accuracy. Methodological guidelines for TSIS performance are provided in the WPE Manual.

Mid-term assessment is based on the achievement test (vocabulary/grammar, reading and listening. Reading and listening is evaluated for accuracy of comprehension measured by the number of correctly done assignments.

End-of-term assessment is based on the BC writing and project presentation.
