CHAPTER

PART I. GETTING READY TO WRITE

Exploring Ideas

In this chapter you are going to write about a part of your life. You can make a lifeline to help you. This is a line that shows the important events of your life.

First draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper. The top of the line represents the year you were born, and the bottom of the line is the present time. You can write some ages along the line too, as in the example.

Now relax and think about your life. Think in English, if possible, and also think in pictures. As you think, try to answer these questions:

52

1.What important things happened to me?

2.What important decisions did I make?

3.Who were the important people in my life?

4.How did I feel at different times in my life?

5.What were the important changes in my life?

After you think about your life, write some of the important events on the left of the lifeline and feelings about your life on the right. Write in English if possible, but don't worry about correctness or order. If you can't think of something in English, use your native language. You can use pictures and symbols, and you may also want to look at family photographs. Here is an example of Greta's lifeline and some photos from her life.
