Grammar: THE GERUND.

ГЕРУНДИЙ – это неличная форма глагола, сочетающая в себе одновременно признаки глагола и существительного (подобно отглагольному существительному в русском языке). Герундий обозначает процесс некоего действия. Грамматически герундий строится

с помощью окончания –ing и схематически обозначается как «Ving».

Впредложениях герундий можно обнаружить по следующим признакам:

1.Перед глаголом с окончанием –ing может стоять предлог: (например: after coming)

2.Перед глаголом с окончанием –ing может стоять притяжательное местоимение или существительное в притяжательном падеже: (например: his working; the student’s answering)

3.Герундий может являться подлежащим в предложении. В этом случае за ним всегда следует сказуемое, а сам герундий будет переводиться существительным в Именительном падеже либо глаголом в неопределенной форме.

Scientific Progress.

Concentration on the most promising fundamental research and increasing the practical effectiveness of research are the main trends of today’s Russian science. One of them is the emergence of quantum electronics. The idea of introducing and developing the new sources of electromagnetic high-power quantum generators belongs to Russian scientists. These generators are successfully used in industry for cutting and welding metals. Fast-acting computers are also in view of modern science. Everybody knows of the necessity of conducting extremely fast technical calculations in atomic technique, aviation and cosmonautics. That is why the computers and other technical means of control are the necessity “number one”. Wide using of computers signifies a further advance in industry.
