MARPOL II RECORD KEEPING

Due to the vastly different nature of cargo operations, cleaning and disposal procedures applicable under Annex-II, the recording instructions and operational codes are very different.

With regards to the tank plan, it should be noted that as far as Annex-II is concerned, any tank could be used as a slop tank subject to coating and safety considerations.

MARPOL II RECORD KEEPING

The CRB is a statutory document and must be given the respect and attention it deserves, failure to do this may result in heavy personal and company penalties in terms of fines, possible imprisonment, ship detentions and lost business.

MARPOL II RECORD KEEPING

The entries made in the Cargo Record Book are inextricably linked to the Ships Procedures And Arrangements Manual. The methods of discharging cargo (stripping procedure), methods used for the cleaning of cargo tanks and disposal of slops, as stated in the P & A Manual, must match the procedures recorded in the CRB, failure to do so automatically results in non-compliance.

MARPOL II RECORD KEEPING

It is not within the scope of this course to conduct detailed training on the completion of Cargo record Books. It is the duty of every Senior Officer to be fully familiar with the instructions for making entries within the CRB and follow them accurately. It is the duty of every Junior Officer to ensure that he is thoroughly familiar with CRB, entries required prior seeking promotion to a rank which is responsible for

maintaining the record book

MARPOL II RECORD KEEPING

Note: It is a criminal Offence to knowingly make incorrect entries in the Cargo record Book
