Гражданская война в США началась из-за спора северных и южных политиков в вопросах рабства. Юг, являясь сельскохозяйственной территорией, был за использование труда чернокожих рабов, промышленно-развитый Север – за запрет. Война началась 12 апреля 1861. Американским гражданам было трудно выбрать какую сторону поддерживать, иногда решения приносили раскол в семьи. Север имел превосходство в численности и материальном обеспечении (едой, одеждой, оружием), в то время как, у Юга были талантливые офицеры и все битвы проходили на территории южных штатов, поэтому солдаты сражались с большей одушевлённостью, защищая свою родину.
Итогом войны стало поражение Юга, и таким образом, отмена рабства. Война стала причиной ужасной разрухи и гибели огромного количества людей.
