Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal, located in Eastern Siberia. The lake stretches from south-west to north-east, its length is 636 km long and up to 80 km. Surface area - 31,500 km². The lake is almost surrounded by the

mountains.

336 permanent rivers and streams flows into the lake, with half the amount of water flowing into the lake, bringing the Selenga. Follows from the lake only river - the Angara.

Algae constitute almost the entire Baikal plant biomass. Common to many other lakes in the plants that live along low- lying coasts or on the surface of stagnant water, there are rare, primarily because of the excitement and storms. On a variety of fauna of Lake Baikal is the first among the world's lakes.
