Department of welding technology
The department of welding technology graduates engineers in speciality «Equipment and technology of welding production».
It was founded in 1935 on the initiative of Academician Y.O. Paton at the KPI Mechanical faculty. In 1948 the department became a part of Welding Faculty. In 1955 Welding Faculty was closed and the department joined the Mechanical Faculty, where it functioned successfully till 1974. In 1975 Welding faculty was restored on the basis of the Department of welding technology. The department is still exists at the faculty.
In the period of working the department of welding technology was headed by a range of the well-known scientists in the branch of welding among which we can mention Y.O. Paton, K.K. Khrenov, G.I. Pogodin and many others.
This department initiated principles of different schools and sciences of welding technologies.
In the course of its working the department has prepared more than 4400 specialists in the branch of welding, published 21 monographs, more than 3000 scientific articles, received a great number of patents and author’s certificates. Among the graduates of the department there are more than 30 Doctors of Science and 300 candidates of science and also many eminent statesmen.
Department of electric welding installations
The department of electric welding installations graduates engineers in speciality «Automated electric welding processes and installations».
The department is accomplishing the training of Bachelors in the line of welding course, specialists with the qualification of the electric engineer, or Masters in speciality “Welding Installations”.
In the context of the speciality “Welding Installations” as the main one, the department is training in specialization “Special Welding Installations for manufacture automation”.
Vocational training of specialists is bringing out with appropriate disciplines which include: electric machines, electro and pneumohydrodrive, technical means of automation, applied information science, welding power supplies design, designing of welding installations and systems of their automatic control, welding robots and robotic complexes, applied analysis of experimental data, technologic forecasting of welding installations reliability, quality, certification and attestation of welding installations and others.
Research efforts of the department are aimed at finding a solution of the main problem: “Automation of welding processes and installations with the purpose of ensuring quality and maintainability of welded joints, creation and introduction of the new methods and technologies of welding with the minimal participation of performer – operators.
