Welding equipment
Welding equipment ranges from the simplest appliances to complex automated units.
Among the simplest ones we can mention protective appliances of a welder such as: aprons, helmets (hoods), goggles, gauntlets (mitts) and welding outfit – all sorts of meters, fans, brushes, clamps, etc.
The most widespread equipment used in welding production includes welding devices and installations for different types of welding. These are hammers for hammer welding, ovens, torches and burners for gas welding, welding guns, consumable and non-consumable electrodes and a variety of other devices. The outdated equipment is being constantly replaced by new up-to-date devices and units.
Here are some examples of modern welding equipment.
New UTP stainless electrodes which increase production efficiency with better bead and less clean up. No grinding is needed and slag lifts off easily. Stainless electrodes offer higher deposition rates, longer arc time and more travel speed.
The Compact line of air blast coolers is designed for a wide range of welding applications. Coolers work with GMA guns, GTA torches, resistance welding machines, plasma arc equipment, and induction heating equipment.
A line of pipe notching machines comes in manually operated or electrically driven models and each unit notches several diameters of pipe. The portable units are designed for use wherever pipes are welded together at a 90-deg angle. The machine notches the pipes without need for filling or grinding.
Articulated arm robots are designed for jobs such as spot welding. The robot comes with a variety of software packages such as spot welding control, material handling and material removal menus. The robot’s hardware is equipped with an air duct and cable inside the manipulator for better spot welding. The robot uses a control unit with a standard remote keyboard.

Welding Faculty
The faculty was founded in 1948 and joined Mechanical Faculty in 1955. It was restored in 1975.
Training of welding engineers has been carried out in KPI since 1935. Y.O. Paton, a prominent bridge constructor and a founder of welding scientific school was the organizer and the first Head of Welding Technology Faculty. The following years the department was headed by outstanding scientists such as Academician K.K. Khrenov, Professors I.P. Trochun, V.I. Diatlov, B.S. Kasatkin, I.P. Patskevich.
In 1995 the faculty team organized the Ukrainian Attestation Committee of Welders.
On the premises of Welding Faculty, the Teaching-scientific association of the KPI and Paton Electric Welding Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences organized the Training Centre of Welding in 1977, where, besides training of welding engineers, in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences, the UNIDO program and the seminar-practicum of raising qualification of specialists from developing countries are constantly functioning.
Presently scientific research activity at Welding Faculty is performed in the following areas: welding materials and technologies, surfacing, restoration of machine parts, magnetic control of crystallization processes, automation of welding processes.
Nowadays the Faculty consists of 3 departments.
