About Myself

Let me introduce myself. My name is Alexander, Alex for short. My full name is Alexander Sergeyevich Orlov. Orlov is my surname. Alexander is my first name and Sergeyevich is my patronymic. I’m nearly eighteen-next Thursday is my birthday. Now I’m a first-year student. I study at the Academy. Every day I attend lectures. In January and June I take examinations. I get good or excellent marks in all the subjects. When I graduate from the Academy I want to work as an engineer.

I have a large family. My parents have two more children besides me. Thus I have got an elder brother and a younger sister. My sister Helen is just out of school. She is sixteen. She is very fond of music and her dream is to become a pianist. My brother, whose name is Michael, is eight years my senior. He is twenty six already. He is a builder. He is married and has a family of his own. They are four in the family. He has a wife and two children- a son and a daughter. They are twins.

My parents are not old at all. Father is fifty and mother is three years his junior. My father is a doctor. He works in a hospital. He is very busy, he has a lot of patients and does all he can to help them. My mother is a book-keeper. She works at an office. She has a lot of work. Still, she finds time to look after the house and to take care of all of us.

My grandfather is over seventy, though he is still full of the life energy. My grandmother is also in very good health. She does most of the cooking. Of course mother helps her and so does my sister. In the evening we all come together and either watch TV or just talk about the events of the day. We are all great friends. I love my relatives dearly.

ABOUT my character

It is both pleasant and a bit difficult to speak about oneself. It is pleasant because every person enjoys speaking about his or her interests, likes or dislikes. But at the same time, it is difficult because to study a person, especially yourself, is a great journey, not a little walk.

Speaking about my character I'd like to define what character is. These are some qualities that make a person different from others. People often say about me that I am not like others. I don't think that I am something special. I think I have a good sense of humour, moreover, I’m very responsible, hard working and emotional person. I like creativity and appreciate this trait in others. I try not to be late and I hate when others don't come on time. I prefer to associate with clever and polite people. It is very annoying when somebody whom I trust turns out to be unreliable. But I try to treat other people so as I want them to treat me.

As for my interests I am fond of psychology in the sphere of dealing with people and the questions of how to form your thoughts in the most favourable way. I adore travelling, seeing other people, their traditions, customs, culture, going sightseeing. Besides, I like different kinds of music.

About my Hobby

Hobby is a favourite occupation of a person in his free time. I have many friends. They are very different and they have different kinds of hobbies. One of my friends, for example, likes to knit very much. Another friend of mine spends all her free time sewing things: skirts, blouses, dresses. She makes it nicely and she always looks fine.

Many people are very fond of collecting. Some collect old coins, others collect post-cards. Nowadays both grown-ups and children are fond of playing different computer games. This is a relatively new hobby but it is becoming more and more popular.

As for me, I go in for sports - I like to play tennis. I go to play it every day. Sport is a very important part of our life. Many people go in for sports, train themselves in clubs and different sections.

Physical training is an important subject at our Academy. Students play volleyball, football, basketball. I have been playing tennis for 5 years. Tennis became very popular now. I take part in different competitions.

Everyone should do all he can to stay healthy and choose the sport he is interested in. I do not understand people who say that they like sport, but they only watch sport on TV.

If one goes in for sports he feels better, looks better, sleeps better. Your physical appearance will change too.

Why do I go in for sports? Because I think that it is very important for a man to be strong and well-built. Sport is not for weak, because, you have to learn how to lose, and it's not easy. My favourite saying is: "A sound mind in a sound body".

No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has the opportunity of learning much from it. Learning new things can be the most exciting hobby.
