Restaurant in the hotel

Every hotel has bars and restaurant, because it is very popular pastime. When people staying in the hotel are hungry or just want to relax and have good time listening to music and having a drink, they go to a restaurant. They prefer to eat ready-made food, because they are not at home and can’t cook. There is a wide variety of restaurants serving different types of food at different prices. There are Chinese, Italian, French restaurants.

In some restaurants you should reserve table in advance, in others not. You choose a table and a waiter brings you the menu. When you have looked at the menu and chosen what you want for the first two courses the waiter takes your order. There is usually a wide choice of beverages to please everyone. A barman or a wine waiter offers the wine list where the guest can find any drink they like. In the end of your meal the waiter takes your order for dessert, tea or coffee.

In some place you can dance to disco music between the courses of your meal. While having your drink or a meal you may enjoy a cabaret. This can be any kind of shows: music, singing, dancing, or people telling stories and jokes.

When you finish eating, ask the waiter to bring you the bill. In most restaurants a service charge (10-15%) is added into the sum, that’s why it’s not necessary to give a tip.

Restaurants in the hotel are very popular and convenient, because guests don’t need go far from their room. They can make an appointment there and meet interesting people.

Restaurants in the hotels

Every hotel has bars and restaurant, because it is very popular pastime. When people staying in the hotel are hungry or just want to relax and have good time listening to music and having a drink, they go to the restaurant.

Food services are a feature of hotels. The typical modern “package hotel” includes a restaurant, a café shop for quicker and less expensive meals and a bar or cocktail lounge. Many larger hotels have several restaurants, often featuring different kinds of food, as well as different prices. The poolside bar and snack bar for quick food are normal part of the service at a resort hotel.

The range of food service in hotels and restaurants today is extensive. There are four types of service. Gueridon service is the highest grade of service offering a full a La carte menu where dishes are served by the waiter from a trolley in the dinning-room, and the gueridon waiter has to cook speciality at the table.

Silver service is the second type where the menu can be either a La carte or table d’hote. In this system, the food is prepared in the kitchen and then put on to silver plates and presented to the guests in the dining-room.

A third form of table service is plate service. The waiter receives the meal already plated from the service hot plate and only has to plate it in front of the guest.

In a fourth type of service, called self-service, a customer collects a tray from the service counter, chooses his dishes and selects the appropriate cutlery for the meal.

There is one more service food system called “the Swedish Board”. This type is a great advantage for the guests as they needn’t wait for the waiters to serve them. The SB is placed in the centre of the hall; the tables for four guests are near the walls. The plates with snacks, salads, vegetables, herbs are mostly served in the centre of the hall. Second, main dishes and desserts are usually served on separate tables.

The guest come up to the SB, take the plates, make choice of the appetizers, dishes and cooling beverages and take their seats at the tables.

The waiter can help the guests if necessary.

The guests can buy wines, cigarettes, beer, coffee, mineral water and pastry for cash money in the restaurant hall.

Today, with increasing needs for economy, many establishments usually prefer a variety of types of service. Tourist hotels, for example, frequently offer a combination of self-service and plate service for breakfast.

So, food service is very important for every hotel as it brings profit to it.
